completely agree with Hawking
by lime water on May 17, 2011 10:48 AM  | Hide replies

Religion is a simplistic system conceived to provide explanation for the randomness that is occurring in our lives. Any set of religious beliefs are highly inconsistent and there for less believable when examined rationally. Science does not explain everything. But is consistent and does not prove to be wrong.

Eg:
If Hawking was a believer, proponents of religion would argue that it was his religious beliefs that made him achieve great things in spite of being disabled. Since he is a non-believer, proponents of religion argues that he got the disease because of his disbelief. Its very humorous the way they argue.

religion has some good points, if you are not a fanatic.. it gives an order, some guidelines to live life.. bt if you can make your own, that;s fine too.. the religious music lifts the spirit of many.. those are hrmless

The sect of believers of the 'flying sphagetti monster' are nice people too. They have laws, which make one orderly and provide guidelines to live life. The last I heard their choir music is excellent too.

Hey Lime Water

Are you a product of 'randomness'? Have you ever tried creating 'order', 'beauty', 'meaning', 'purpose', 'ethics', 'sacrifice' etc (to name a few) out of 'Randomness'??? Please try creati a 'roti' out of 'randomness' and you will realize the folly of your belief. Do you have any idea about how intricately you yourself has been 'designed' or do you think that such an intricate piece of master craftmanship was a product of 'randomness'. Wake up my brother, even if you are really 'lime water' even that cannot result out of 'randomness'. Jai Hind.

That is due to the 'corruption' that has set in to the 'creation' because of MAN's rebellion and SIN. The whole of 'creation' is under a curse and bondage due to Man's SIN. GOD has already made a way out through Christ Jesus. If you are a honest seeker please find more information on your own. It the SIN principle that operates in every human being who has not been redeemed which leads him/her to doubt GOD and live according to HIS purpose.

If that is how you want to refer to your Heavenly Father then shame on you. May the problem is with the earthly DOG who brought you up or may be you even do not know who that DOG is!!! Then I don't blame you since it is proven that people who have had dyfunctional relations with their dads will have obvious problems relating to their 'Heavenly' one too. Think!!

In that case you should be GOD's son and not DON. Though a 'joke', this is exactly the crux of the problem. Modern man tries to debunk GOD because he thinks that he himself is GOD. A day is coming when people like you will realize where to use 'GOD' and where to use 'DOG'. Please await your turn. Goodbye.

Even the question of what exists after death does not arise
by ganesh on May 17, 2011 10:28 AM  | Hide replies

By saying that there is nothing after life, Stephen Hawking seems to imply that the ultimate reality is total void. It is not completely true. Actually existence of any entity whether it is space, time, matter or energy is an attribute of the human mind only. If at all anything exists, it exists because of the recognition given to it by the mind. Thus the entire universe is a concept of the mind or the self. When death occurs and the mind no longer exists, even the question of what exists cannot arise because any question has to be basically raised by the mind and answered by the mind only. This is the essence of Advaita or non-dualism and this concept was known to men even in the Vedic ages thousands of years earlier.

void? where? your engine stars at birth and stops at death, then the physical body is dismantled and the scrap used to make new you won't feel any void as your brain'd 've stoped working, no impulses, no sensations afterward...

Actually it is not void. Actually the question of what is there afterlife is an illogical question because when the mind ceases to exist no question can arise. You can't say whether it is nothing or something or void etc.

Dear Arun, God is a concept of the human mind and as such whether God is male or female is left to the individual. It doesn't mean that God is not there. The whole universe is God. It is also your mind, your awareness and your self. It is the essence of Advaita

Whats after death or before, no one can explain. Be it religious folks or the scientist folks. Because no one who has died has come back to tell their experience nor has Stephen Hawking died to be 100% sure that there is no afterlife (in whatever form it may be)!!!

Afterlife is an open question but a useless question as well!!! It serves of no help to anyone!!!

Death is like a deep sleep from which we don't get up. As such it is not possible for anyone to say about afterlife experience. It is an open question, but not an useless question. It is the essence of study of advaita. As I had mentioned, it is illogical to raise this question, as this question can not arise in the absence of mind.

Evolutionary models are as much a bogus as the religious models in explaining the complexities of this Universe.

But one difference is that evolutionary models can be debated and changed (without any fear of going wrong on a hypoothesis/theory) whereas religious models CAN NEVER CHANGE and if someone tries to change the religious models of Universe, Gawd alone save him or her!!!

If there's no heaven, no afterlife...
by martin abraham on May 17, 2011 10:14 AM  | Hide replies

From Alice in Wonderland: "Would you tell me, please, which way I ought to go from here?"
"That depends a good deal on where you want to get to," said the Cat.
"I don’t much care where--" said Alice.
"Then it doesn’t matter which way you go," said the Cat.

If there's no heaven, no afterlife, is there an ultimate purpose to life at all? Would it then matter at all how we live? Or if we lived at all?

A simple question to Mr.Hawking
1)When there is a Zwro state then who created universe. If science says there was a Big Bang a loud sound who then transferred to material energy and formed Universe of corores of Star and Planets.then where from this Big Bang came?
In hindu shastra there was nothng a zero state when there was a Brahmanadh(Big sound) "OM" created by Brahma,Visnu and Maheswar. Are they not God?
2)How the life came?may be a living single cell is the cause of life, but where from this single cell came?
Is there any answer Mr. Hawking?
You are talking like communist who never beleive in God.

Science does not explain everything. But provide a consistent set of explanations, which are never proved wrong.

Eg: there might be no good explanation how the single living cell might have come from bundles of amino acids. But science explain almost everything else consistently.

Religious beliefs are often inconsistent, and not verifiable.

So as a rational human, what option should we choose?
