Constitution is a sacred parchment
by Ramesh on May 17, 2011 04:30 AM  | Hide replies

Bhardwaj is a Sonia loyalist. The graphic details of his antics for serving the premier dynasty has been reported in Indian Express months earlier. Irony is he was also the Law Minister at the Centre, when the need to quash Bofor fallout was need of the hour. MMS could boot him out only when the dynasty purposes were perhaps fully served.

For men like Bhardwaj, it seems Constitution is merely toilet paper, all that counts is partisan brazen politics in service of his party of the Madam. This kind of culture was there in Indira Gandhi days, and this would have surely returned in the dynasty had its meandering ways.

Fortunately MMS is at helm and Constitution is a sacred parchment.

One can shudder to think of what would happen if a dynasty scion comes to fore and his acolytes prove more loyal than the king.

Those who think MMS is weak, ought to think twice, at the complexities in hand and how on all matters of strategic and Constitutional significance, his steady hold on the reins has saved the day for India.

The issue at stake is not the constituting of the State Govt, which was above board, but its trust vote on the floor.

The matter was subject of High Court judgement and the bench endorsed the decision by Speaker.

While Supreme Court justly set it aside, but there was no reportage about it recommending dissolution of the Government. The dissolution of the government has to also be a Constitutional process, either end of term or loss of trust.

If the prior trust vote was faulty, then need is to have a Constitutionally valid trust vote. An unconstitutional act of the government, as interpreted by Supreme Court on a later date does not make the Govt unconstitutional. The need to respect the prior judgment of the High Court is also critical.

The only national leader of repute, who has publicly come in support of Mr Bhardwaj is Prakash Karat.

His party has just lost the janadesh, and the hopes of third front would surely evaporate if the dynasty loses its hold on Congress and does not go on ekla chalo mode in UP. Perhaps he also had the stratagem of Dange led CPI in mind as well, to make inroads within Congress. This strategy had almost worked in wrecking N-deal with US. Perhaps he is looking for a lallu-panju at the helm of India so that once the nation is deprived of Constitutional unity, his politburo can take over.

Such designs may or may not be his intent, but it can be proven so only if he comes with credible legal arguments in favour of his surmise.

That our governance process is corruption ridden is well known. The pervasive role of black money is evident to all. Yet, there has been continuous improvement in our governance processes.

The enhanced growth rate, poverty reduction, expanded consumption, consumer economy and competitive polity are all manifestation of democracy at work and graduated improvement in Constitutional compliance.

Given this onward march of Constitutional progress, there is much scope for even deriving strengths from historical legacies like premier family and other state level political dynasties. Their role can be beneficial and their family heritages a priceless addition to the political mosaic of the nation, provided there is complete fidelity to Constitution.

Grave internal security risks surface only when the dynastic elements become above law. The contributory causes are not the dynasty itself, but hatchet men who serve the dynasty against Constitutional interests.

get dillie out of our states
by shilpy on May 17, 2011 03:17 AM

dillie's job is to keep terrorists out. instead the goi acts like a terrorist itself, killing people's right to govern themselves as they choose. a state must make a governor to present his/her credentials for approval by the state just like an ambassador is required to do abroad, at least until the governor mansions are bulldozed. a governor's presence in a state is the face of a dictatorial govt i at center.

will MMS show his weakness again and stick to his chair
by D S on May 17, 2011 02:14 AM  | Hide replies

with opportunist advani shaking hands with one he called as "weakest PM MMS". will they show Sonia the same knife that was used to stab PVNR and appoint Sonia as queen of the bjp-congress cartel.

Advania has asked MMS to remove bhardwaj from karnataka, will they vote in parliament for it??

bhardwaj is now on the gun of bjp-congress cartel VOTE showdown.
Sonia will be very keen and clever to make it die down so she is not caught on the wrong foot. sonia might even get bhardwaj be a sacrifice goat if she does not have good footing during vote showdown.
after all, sonia plans are working very well, leftist are gone, DMK is in jail and out. Coalition and seat arrangement have saved Congress in Bengal and kerala from taking direct hit for the mess. Assam is a recluse anyway with no local leadership of local party.

In case sonia plans work, advani/jaitley/etc will be back into kissing hands of sonia and MMS and wait for next chances.

make an example out of this rogue governor
by shilpy on May 17, 2011 01:16 AM

india is ruled still like a colony, the old british style. now, let's see: a governor is not elected by people, nor is he accountable to the people of a given state where his elephantness makes an abode. so, what business a guy called governor, a mere two bit chamacha of a chamacha of a chamcha should presume he should have the right to convene legislatures for the conduct of people's business. this governor thingy is so revolting to the idea of democracy that governor's mansions must be bulldozed forthwith.

Typical Congressss Tricks
by Rahul Gupta on May 17, 2011 12:43 AM

CON Gress has been a fountain head in violating the constution since its Birth. Now it is Manish Tiwari who is going to say whether a Government is constitutinal or not. Floor tets and Parliamnetaru democracy norms are farce for Congess. They have put up a Governor whose sole purpose of existence is to disturb the Governing pattern in Karnataka and despite so many smack in the bum this man is not stopping. Good if he destroys this Government so that a new effective BJP Government is formed.
