Land as a property
by alok Misra on May 12, 2011 08:02 PM

All the land under the Jamidari system belonged to Govt except the one that Jamindar has purchased. From the toime of Akbar and even before all agricultural land belonged to the state.Jamindari was only for collection of revenue. Slowly some of them purchased the land. The private ownership was very few even though zamindar claimed the land as theirown. Congress in order to create a vote bank after abolishing the Zamindari system surrendered the land ownership to the tillars. This was done to catch the votes. Nowhere except in totally capitalist country this is the case. Inafrica land ownership still rests withthe Govt and land is given on lease. So thetillars got the land free of cost without paying anything. Now we are shelling out huge sums of money for the land which in essence belongs to the state. This money is huge and now again Congress and other parties want to vacate the treasury for the land which is in essence state property. It was given for cultivation and not for cashing in.

Repeal this Law...
by imran patel on May 12, 2011 07:54 PM

The best thing to for the government to do is to repeal this law...

The law is punitive to poor people.

The role of government is to protect private property right.

This is how government "help" makes matters worse. The corruption that follows is a drain on the economy.

People who support this act should ask themselves a very simple question. Would I be willing to give up my abode for any of the purpose listed above?

FAQ: Why is land acquisition so controversial?
by raman govindan on May 12, 2011 07:50 PM

The farmer no. 1, loses his land for a road project. the value of the land adjoining the farmer no.1's land, increases it's value. the farmer no.1 becomes considerably poorer than the owners of land not acquired.

i think it is one of the major irritants and heart burn that which is to be tackled in a sincere manner.

Ridiculous

Land acquisition has been kept with loop holes because the first place where a newly elected CM earns is through land dealings.

Why are there protests: Because government can FORCIBLY convert agricultural land into industrial land. Which is why most SEZs (including Ambanis) is in limbo. Obviously the farmers would be up in revolt.

Even media are being carefully manipulative. They are concentrating on "market price" of land rather than the more democratic right of the farmers "RIGHT to decide whether to sell or no"

Rotten land acquisition rules
by Shamkant Patankar on May 12, 2011 07:41 PM

ZrpdI have filed a case against govt regarding improper compensetion against for land acquired. in 1989. Lower courts have awarded me substantial additional compensetin but I have yet to receive a rupee. The matter is pending in high court. It will take me at least another ten years to get the money belonging to me. If it takes thirty years and long legal fights to get the money that belongs to you what is wrong if people start uprising against such laws. Land acquisiton act was passed in 1894 and we are still using the same act with minor changes. As prices of land rise and land is becoming scarce people will not be satisfied with peanuts that govt sheels out as compensetion. These things are bound to happen
