Peace or False Promise
by Dipak Bose on May 11, 2011 10:12 AM  | Hide replies

There are two types of Bengalis: Bhadralok or civilized Bengalis and Chotalok or uncivilized Bengalis.

All Chotalok bengalis are voting for Mamata Banu; look at the candidates and supporters of Mamata everywhere. They do not have education more than class VI in schools; they are all engaged in some kind of agencies selling building materials, land etc.

Since 1977 there were at least peace although not prosperity for West Bengal. Now under Mamata there will be again blood baths in west Bengal, as it was during the Congress rule of 1971-1977.

Peace is much better than false promise of Mamata. So far she has done nothing for West Bengal. At least Lallu Prasad created 80,000 jobs for the Biharis. Nitish Kumar took away all railways to Bihar. Mamata did nothing.

Dipak, this is a very narrow minded view of the situation. There are "Chotolok" and "Bhadralok" in both parties. Every political party has it's share of educated and un-educated or ill-educated people. Some of the people in this forum are proof of that.
Your bias is unwarranted and does not project you as being well groomed. Please refrain from making such generalized statements.

Dipak, that's your way of thinking. Either you are trying to insult the Bengalis under the disguise of a Bengali name, or you are trying to say that the people staying in Kolkata in areas like Alipur, Dumdum, Jorabagan, Bowbajar, Entally, Maniktala etc. as Chotoloks who have been voting against CPM for many years now.

What peace are you talking about? The people were subdued by Red Terror. Do you understand what red terror is? Go and meet the people in Singur, Nandigram, Keshpur, Netai, Suchpur, Nanur, Shason near Barasat.

If you haven't seen police wearing slipper beating common people mercilessly in Singur, if you haven't seen the video coverage of police in slippers firing at common people of Nandigram using local made guns - then I must say you are a blind person.

In WB, free and fair poll started to happen since 2009 LS election (after LF & Cong affair ended) and the results are everywhere to be seen.
Till yesterday if I wanted to start an industry, I had to pay to party fund, local committee functions, local clubs apart from the normal taxes to the Govt and Govt was nowhere to provide any support.
For 35 years this Govt has not done anything for the people. Therefore the people know what they want, better than you and me for sure.

I would disagree on the 2009 election bit. I think free and fair polls happened during 2005 also. At that time there was no one in the opposition in Bengal for whom people could vote. Hence, the Left was the only option available to people. I would be bold enough to say that in the new millenium, all polls in WB have been largely free and fair.
Therefore your contention on that does not hold good. So far as terror is concerned, we have witnessed armed goons on both sides of the spectrum prior to this election. Don't expect the situation to change drastically after this also. Never forget, all the political goons of the Left have now joined TMC.

You can claim anything but fact won't change because of that. Till 2008, 90% of the polling booths were guarded by WB home guards and WB Police. And who doesn't know the control of CPM over these?
Cong also never used to send enough central force because it was pally with the CPM.

In 2009, after the divorce of CPM & Cong, the scenario changed and we all can see the result.

I am not expecting drastic changes but I am hopeful for better days. Remember Mamata has more at stake than the commies.

Above all, I am happy that the tyrant, arrogant and rude commies have been defeated. It is the victory of the common people of WB whom one cadre has criticised as "Chotolok".

Bias exists on both ends. There are extremists on both sides. There are people who support the left and abuse anyone who does not. The same applies for the TMC supporters. I am willing to criticize both parties, as i think both of the parties deserve to be kicked on their rear-end and thrown out of the country.

Dipak, you can't term Mamata's promises as false. She has played her part in hastening the delivery of Garia extension of Kolkata Metro. The people taking this route know how much they have been benefitted. She has played her part in starting Duronto express service which is very good. Success and failure is part of everyone's life so she also has her failures.

Lalu created jobs for Biharis and caused a catastrophe by employing incompetent people in key positions who are responsible for many mistakes in railway operations.

And would you please explain what you exactly mean by "Nitish Kumar took away all railways to Bihar". Are you thinking that Railways is a piece of cake or a bottle of milk? I think you should have the courage to stand by your post. Don't sound like the moron Goutam Deb.

Why do you guys always bring up Duronto Express whenever her work at railways is questioned? Are you aware of the fact that this express was planned and route timing determined as far back as 2005? She has only named it Duronto and has nothing to do with the planning or execution of the train. Check the railway planning board recommendations for 2005 through RTI.

Who is responsible?
by MM on May 11, 2011 10:07 AM

Even after so many scams, see who is responsible for Cong. power directly/indirectly?

This time it is pseudo-intelectual, 'secular (anti-Hindu)', anti-national sentiments of Bengalis, Keralites..

Unlike in olden days,in a democracy, leaders are made by people by choice. It is not other way.

Then why to blame only the leaders?

And then, need for slogans by Hazares and Ramdevs?

Best wishes to our country..

Actually this is an exit poll, the final verdict will come on Friday the 13th. I'm sure the final results will not be far off the mark and TMC will win, hands down. But, Joy, don't you find it significant that the results are being announced on Fridat the 13th? :)

Also, please note Sumit that the exit poll results have been quite successful in the recent years so there is no reason why this one shouldn't be reliable. There may be some difference in the final figures but the general mood of the voters are well captured.

Exit poll
by G Krishnan on May 11, 2011 08:56 AM

In a vast country like ours any kind of sampling is bound to have a low probability. So whether inward or Exit polls have to be taken with a bushfull of salt. In Sixties Harold Wilson of UK was to sweep the election with 100 MPS majority and ended up with 100 MPs short. From that day I have understood what the Gallup or any other poll prediction is to be considered as. At best it can be a pointer and at worst it will be worse than lottery. But then some people have to live on it and we too need such tamashah once in a while. Carry on.
