India losing some 8,000 acres to Bangladesh..

NEW DELHI: India and Bangladesh have agreed to redraw their 4,100km boundary. Straightening of the boundary would include ending the contentious issue of over 200 enclaves located in each other's territory.

High-level sources said the deal would be announced when Prime Minister Manmohan Singh visits Dhaka immediately after the West Bengal elections. The visit in all likelihood could take place in June.

The boundary deal would have been done earlier if it wasn't for the fact that Congress ally in West Bengal, Mamata Banerjee, flatly refused to agree to any transfer of population that could affect voter sentiment in the state. At issue is the demarcation of 6.1 km of boundary, and a final settlement on the enclaves and areas under "adverse possession".

The broad contours of the border agreement reflects India's aversion to disturbing settled populations and exchange of territory. This essentially means Bangladeshi enclaves in Indian territory will remain with India, while Indian enclaves in Bangladesh will remain with them. This might mean a little bit of area transfer mainly from India to Bangladesh.

The people would be given a choice to decide, if they want to be Bangladeshi citizens or Indians, sources indicated. "We are working out the modalities, but that is the broad guideline," a senior official said about the contentious citizenship issue.

Enclaves are small areas that are in the middle of another country. The straightening of the boundary would make for easier policing, and if necessary, possible fencing of the border. Many parts of the Indo-Bangla border is already fenced.

A headcount is currently underway in the enclaves on both sides — 130 Indian enclaves in Bangladesh and 95 Bangladeshi enclaves within Indian territory. A senior official said they believe "over two lakh people live in these enclaves but only the (ongoing) headcount will tell us the final figure".

India and Bangladesh held their first boundary talks in November, when Bangladeshi foreign minister Dipu Moni visited Tripura. The two sides expect to meet a few more times before the agreement is sealed.

By straightening out the 4,100-km boundary, India may end up losing some land because it has more enclaves on the other side that would be absorbed by Bangladesh. "That is not a major issue, given the fact that it would forever settle the issue that has been on for centuries," the official said.

The 130 Indian Chitmahals (enclaves) occupy a land of some 20,000 acres while the Bangladesh Chitmahals in India occupy about 12,000 acres.

In effect, India would end up losing some 8,000 acres.

As many as 53 out of 294 Assembly constituencies in West Bengal have a high concentration of voters who happen to be illegal Muslim from Bangladesh. Similarly, the fate of 40 Assembly seats in Assam depends on the votes cast by illegal Bangladeshi Muslim infiltrators. All this has been revealed by a recent report of the union home ministry on infiltration from India's neighbour. The report has been prepared on the basis of facts and figures provided by the Task Force on Border Management and Assam's former governor S.K. Sinha. As such the Bangladeshi Muslims can control the West Bengal Assembly, and dictate terms to the state government of West Bengal in all respects. The picture of plight of majority Hindu electorates worsened in the State, as Muslim electorates have a clear majority in three districts viz. Malda, Murshidabad & North Dinajpur and 63 (sixty three) blocks in West Bengal. Again, an analysis upon the projection into the 2001 Census hints at abnormal Muslim growth everywhere in West Bengal, where the Muslim population is 28% of the total state population.

According to the 2001 census report, Indian population is 1,027,015,247.3. Of this, 1.5 crore people are Bangladeshis

The Intelligence Bureau has reportedly estimated, after an extensive survey, that the present number is about 16 million.

Tarun Gogoi, the Congress(I) Chief Minister of Assam, is giving all protection to these Muslims due to political compulsions. The Assamese community has been overpowered by Muslims. These Bangladeshi Muslims are sneaking into upper Assam too, creating serious problems for the Assamese. The demography of Assam has drastically changed and the very existence of the indigenous people is threatened. These Bangladeshis have illegally sneaked into Manipur, Mizoram, Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh and Tripura too. They are marrying the local girls of influential people and are thus getting protection from their in-laws’ families. After marriage with a Janjati girl, they convert her to Islam. They purchase land in the Janjati belts in the name of their Janjati wives by producing Janjati certificates in her name. Now, the new generation of Muslims, i.e. the Janjati Muslims, is growing.

In Nagaland, the Muslim menace is more serious. Dimapur has become the den of these Bangladeshi Muslims. They constitute the leading labour force in the agriculture sector owned by the Naga community. The majority of rickshaw-pullers, auto-drivers and other manual labourers is now of Bangladeshi Muslims. This has given rise to robbery, theft, illegal trafficking of narcotic drugs and liquor, smuggling of pornographic films and vulgar literature and an unprecedented rise in crime, flesh trade and prostitution.

Pls remember that this was a cold blooded murder whereas the riots were not! This is a big difference. However if riot cases proves 'cold blooded murder'-I am all for hanging. Also in cases of rape and murder during riot like bilkis bano case, perpetrators should get death. In any case rioteers will get life terms(many are already convicted for life) and the number will surpass this. Let all criminals H or M, be punished severely so that next time they dont take cover of crowd and commit mass murder.

Oh really? Sorry u seem to have lost senses, k1lling k@frrs are never a crime in izzz1@mic law. And its not some1, its a murder of 59 people, and injury to many. The guys who pour petrol in womens compartment and lit it should get death by law of any civilized country. However no of death sentences will be reduced in higher courts, restricting to only those who actually did it. Omerji also should have hanged..he brainwashed these youth into this heinous crime. He will be punished in future I am sure of it.

A disaster for Indian Secularism
by Antonia on Mar 01, 2011 06:25 PM

11 innocent Muslims were punished for doing nothing. The case was baseless, those 59 dead poured the petrol and lighted themselves. However, the Hindhuva court sentenced the innocents.

Vote for Italian National Criminals to save India and Secularism. Raul Vinci will be the next PM to protect the innocent muslims.

Communal Courts
by A Singh on Mar 01, 2011 06:01 PM  | Hide replies

31 innocent Muslims have been convicted, but not a single Hindu who died in the carnage. This is blatantly communal, and will go against the ruling Congress Party. In spite of the Central Government working overtime to somehow implicate Narendra Modi in a legal suit, with secular elements in judiciary and media wholeheartedly supporting them, the Central Government has not been able to impose President's Rule in Gujarat. It is a big failure of the UPA Government.
