This is the first time I have heard of this - so I was a little sceptical to begin with. However, when I tried to Google, by the time I started typing "Rahul G", Google suggested me following items - "Rahul Gandhi", "Rahul Gandhi Wikileaks" and "Rahul Gandhi Sukanya Singh".
Try it for yourself - you will also be amazed!
So this matter has been Googled enough times that Google suggests it as one of the top options! And if you actually Google "Rahul Gandhi Sukanya Singh", you can see literally HUNDREDS of articles, blogs, etc. have commented on this matter over last 4 years.
This is not a recent issue. Has been brewing for over 4 years now. And has still refused to die. If this was a politically motivated smear campaign, I doubt if it could have been sustained for such a long time.
Frankly, I know nothing about this case - but after seeing what I saw on Google, I can only say that there is enough smoke to suspect that there is might also be a fire.
I like Rahul Gandhi, and think that he is one of the best options available to us for the future. Charismatic, smart, well articulated, etc. For India's sake, I hope this is false, and can be shown to be false quickly.
If nothing else, I hope Rahul at least responds with his version of the news, even if it is totally fabricated, let him come out and say it.

I dont know what u feel smart, charismatic about Rahul baba, What he had done till date?? what he had served till date for nation?
he is not even becoming minister to work some thing good??
he is not speaking about 2AG, about inflation, about CWG about adarsh... where is he???
he is more then 40 yrs old, i think your parents and even my parents had done better thing by the age of 40 then rahul baba.
why he can become PM?? what is his own strength or profile which can make him PM??
just because he is son of Sonia?? sonia a wife of Rajiv?? Rajiv a son of Indira? Indira a daughter of Nehru??
and who is nehru a person who create kashmir?? who create a lots of PSU which was meant to make losses??
