Way to Go!
by raj dhillon on Jun 25, 2011 11:19 AM  | Hide replies

I am extremely happy for those of us who are doing well earning kudos both at home and abroad. Just like a child's success reflects on the entire family so also these elevate the extended family i.e. the nation. I wish more success in the rightful endeavours of our countrymen both here and abroad.

What if Child's success is solely based upon renunciation of burden of family values (?) including its religion?

Bondage of any kind will only lead to constraint. Dogmatic religious fanaticism is the cause of continuous bloodshed and damnation. A religion which professes love and respect for everyone cannot be condemned no matter how it's followers portray themselves. The path to salvation and personal fulfillment is best left to the individual. Family values are relative to the ethnic groups within the same country. Sacrifices are made sometimes. But if the end result is progress, then so be it. Information leads to knowledge but wisdom comes from a deeper understanding of the Creator. Experience which follows will be based upon what that person ultimately feels. Religion must never be used for convenience or ulterior motives. However, sometimes it happens which is unfortunate and false. To remain forcibly within the ambit of traditional values and religion is self defeating in today's world. Traditional culture must have it's place but not form the end of it all. Remember the Barcelona Olympics? Spain, a traditionally staunch Catholic country, honoured the old gods and goddesses who existed long before Christianity. Buddha is honoured as is Shiva in many South East Asian countries. Why can't we be more broadminded and realistic?

Who is an Indian - an Indian Passport Holder/ an Indian Citizen/ or a person with Indian blood through her/ his parental lineage??

When we count Indian Nobel Prize winners, we count Dr. Khurana as Indian, though he was not Indian Citizen, same with Dr. Amratya Sen, who is not an Indian Passport Holder. We also counted Mother Teresa as Indian although she was European in origin.
Let's first decide WHO IS AN INDIAN, before bestowing awards on them. I feel an Indian living abroad but having Indian passport should be honored with such awards, rather than those who have renounced their Indian citizenship just to graze in greener pastures to earn more money.
Kudos to persons like L N Mittal who are still proud of their Indian passports.

very well said.

Here in media (print / TV / internet) any definition of indian suits if it gives you the TRP or clicks.

Media is on of that catagory which while professing the noble cause of disseminating knowledge / news, are hard core business entity going to any depth for money.

Dawood Ibrahim deserves this prize for a long time now. After all,he may have helped many congress leaders including Sharad Pawar build their personal fortunes through timely assistance. He is the most useful Indian abroad.

I think Kapil Sibal should consider his case .After all, he is also from the minority community.
