Time and cost overrun making technology obsolete
by mahesh negi on Jun 03, 2011 12:28 PM  | Hide replies

Unable to understand What is the use of developing weapons in 20-25 years time. By the time weapons are ready its technology becomes obsolte. I think DRDO should rather take steps towards research in counter terrorism technology keeping internal security in view.

For DRDO indigenous means imported..
by EEEEEEE on Jun 03, 2011 12:27 PM  | Hide replies

When the components were 90% indigenous it was 15 years behind schedule as in the case of Arjun Main Battle Tank...and for the rest of them 90% of the components come from Foreign countries..All that DRDO does is design and integrate...and then they call it Indigenous..
When it is completely indigenous they cannot even build a simple tank and I am sure it may not even be battle worthy and crumble like anything like the bullet proof vests (that too imported) of Hemant Karkare..

Deterrent. Or when our neighbours suddenly decide to become adventurous and pull off another Kargil on us. None of us know the behind the doors sabre rattling and reasoning that happens during a war. That is where a long danda comes in handy.

We have LGB kits developed by DRDO which have done exceedingly well in all trials and has been ordered in large numbers by IAF.
Shoulder held missile launcher? Would be nice if you elaborate. We operate Carl Gustavs which are just as good, perhaps more lethal than RPG's. We also operate shoulder fired missles for air defence.
India already operates 1000's of guns of various calibres.
As far as attack choppers go, we are building our own and modifying the existing fleet.
Missles are a deterrent. Brahmos can pull off stunts which will maje Rajani Kant not just look up and take notice, but clap like an excited little boy.
We lack numbers in 155mm Artillery and Self Propelled Guns which we will eventually overcome. Don't be so pessimistic. If you have a solution, build it and give it to the armed forces. They will push it through MoD if they think it is really good.

It would be nice if the concerned folks pull their socks up where small arms are concerned. We are light years behind the rest.
