Dear Muzaffar,
I am assuming that you are a Muslim. Let me ask you something...

Firstly, I would like to lay down a few things that we may all agree upon.

1.      We do not live in a Sharia complaint state
2.      Homosexuality is a SIN in Islam
3.      Polygamy is a Sunnah of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH)
4.      Polygamy is considered un-natural/barbaric/primal/etc. by most of the non-Muslims

Based on our religious beliefs, we cannot accept homosexuality as a way of life. Our attitude towards homosexuals ought to be the same as that towards people who commit other sins such as adultery, alcoholism, abortion, gambling, corruption, interest, etc. We should have disgust towards the act BUT Inshallah the courage to advise individuals to stay away from these sins. Our concern and focus ought to be on ourselves and people around us, reminding of these sins and staying away from them.

Secondly, we have people who want to criminalize it. People with this mindset usually use the “un-natural” or “greater good of society” rationale to push for laws. Many of these same people find polygamy “disturbing” and an act that puts women at a disadvantage. They would like to criminalize it as well.
Would we then join them and criminalize a Sunnah of our Prophet (PBUH)? I hope not.
