StopPayingTaxes
by Rishad Cooper on Jul 13, 2011 12:34 PM  | Hide replies

Nothing will change with all this anger, ranting and raving on public forums.
The politicians, government officials and whole system is too thick skinned and seasoned now, and as long as nothing affects their lives (read incomes) nothing will change.
The time has come for the people of India to unite and stop paying taxes, unless we get to see services getting back on track for Indians. The only efficient aspect of the government is the super management of tax collection from citizens.

Lives, not only in Rail point of view, in other spheres of life, there is no guarantee of human life, roads are so much croweded in big cities with very few traffic police and people drive their vehicle ransomly, dont know even right drawing person got hit by some drunk driver and got his life. In every field this is happening in India and we are democrate and everybody has right to litter on road, wherever one likes, do objectional things are many more.

Why, even a son of MLA in his drunken condition can kill anyone and still get away. It was a fact, that former congress MP Upendra's son has hit my neighbours son and it was clear that Upendra's son was in drunken condtion witnessed by many on the middle of the road. It was instant death for my neighbour's son. No action was taken by police as he was congress MPs son and rather Upendra's men came and threatened our neighbour for pushing the case forward. Being a poor man, my neighbour did not want to raise his voice and get into trouble. This is the state of affair in our country.

Better not to talk about road accidents! In Kerala, bus / truck / tipper lorry drivers are authorized to kill people by rash driving and the fellow gets back his driving license and is scot free in 1 month's time - after which again he goes back to same profession.

Democracy in India means people have freedom to do whatever nonsense they want as long as they keep impinging on the rights of the law abiding ones.

RAILWAYS ACCIDENTS

I do not know how to comment and what to comment. The people of our country never questions anything and never attempt to change the system in our country. We have to blame ourselves for this pathetic condition. We go on elect the same politicans. As long as we remain fools, everybody will exploit and take advantage of the situation for their political and personal gains. We are lazy in our own country and unmindful of what is happening in our country.

It is not us who elect the politicians but it is the politicians themselves who buy the poor peoples votes and poor people are more in india that middle calss and rich people so how do you expect the politicians to loose?
Politicians want poor people to reproduce and create more poor people so their vote bank increases. And this is not going to stop.
Everything starts from her. excess of uneducated and frightened population. How to make them educated and fearless is a big question

Human live are not valued as we flourish from one to many instantaneously. The government should implemented strict measure to curb population explosion as its not practically feasible for any system to cater to millions on the go.
And yes the British did bring a systematic approach to governance which is lacked by politicians today.

Callousness of Railways
by Sriram S on Jul 13, 2011 12:30 PM  | Hide replies

As long as the money is coming - why bother about maintenance of coaches / trains? This seems to be the attitude of Railways. Most of the accidents can be avoided if there is a thorough safety check before the train starts. Also the tracks need to be checked thoroughly. Often an alert inspector has been able to avert many an accident. There have also been cases of accidents being averted due to alert citizens who pointed out cracks in the rail to the line staff. Many of the lower rank employees (below officer rank) in Railways are escapists who evade work. Only a Hire and Fire policy can correct such folks. Job Security has to be taken away to get people to work.

There was previously one instance of a train derailing whereas some passengers had reported some peculiar sounds / vibrations just after the train left its starting point. It was ignored and then there was a derailment somewhere on the way. Safety is the last on the priority list for our Railways.

Being monopolistic is also part of the package. It may be seen that when telephony was the monopoly of the Dept of Telecom, how shabbily the customers were treated - and now after it became BSNL, and its customer base started eroding due to competition, people have woken up.

I am sorry to say that a large portion of the workforce in our country is not even employable - since they refuse to do any work and even threaten their superiors on the strength of the backing provided by the Trade Unions.

Mamata Benerjee, the ex-railway minister was too busy, ever since she took over as railway minister preparing for fight with communist govt. Her main aim was to get into writer's building as CM. She never bothered for railways. In fact, whatever the good revenues the railways earlier earlier years have been sqaundered off with non-profitable trains running from Kolkatta to other places. Never given importance for track improvement with the increase in traffic. And our PM was just watching a non-performing minister due to coalition drama.

System
by sachchidanand dhar on Jul 13, 2011 12:29 PM  | Hide replies

No system can be overhauled unless people demand. People are demanding, but unfair Election System is keeping their voices from being heard.
Electoral Rolls are never complete. I am not talking about new voters -coming of age- not finding place in the voters list. I am talking about existing voters's names being struck out of electoral rolls in subsequent elections. This should be treated as criminal activity on part of those responsible for it.
Also system of "candidate getting highest number votes polled being the winner" should be done away with . Election should be declared null and void if 66% of population has not cast votes. Candidate should not be declared winner if he gets less than 50% of votes polled.
Poll booths should be videographed. Any one found tampering with polling process, should charged with treason, subversion etc.
All previous laws-which have been made parliament by subverting the majority by hook or crook, should be reviewed.

All candidates should be representing equal number of voters. I believe that in case of certain northern border areas, number of representatives is more for less electorate in certain minority dominated areas. It was unfair when started, but it should be dismantled and new system to come up now, on the basis of equal distribution.
