tracers

Rediff should run an article about temples and other treasures that WERE. For example- Somnath -looted by Mehmood Gaznavi, DevGrih (Aptly named Daulatabad) in current Sambhajinagar aka Aurangabad-looted by Allah-Ud-Din Khilji,JagannathPuri looted by KalaPahad, temples of Haridwar-looted by Nader Shah. and many more. Treasure at PadmanabhSwamy may be a fraction.
Rediff should consult EMINENT historians and geneologists to trace those treasures; where are the descendents and where are the treasures-and why should it not be confiscated and restored to their rightful owners OR used for public purpose.
Hopefully it will not be taken as an attempt to create communal animosity- and scuttled. To avoid that-only quotations from contemporary historian of looters' courts and entourage should be quoted.

Mr Dhar u seem to be too much embarrassed and sentimental. How does all this stuff mentioned has relevance to the wealth hoarded in a religious place. It has been done by constitutional authorities.Since some one has been caught with hoarded money then crying for all neighbours be also be raided smacks more of guilt than justification. nader shah, gauri donot have even a bit of relevance to the case.
rather since after law has withdrawn the right to property, the hoarding of unaccounted money for so long has to be dealt accordingly.there r no exceptions-today it is temple ,other day it could be church or mosque. so nothing to worry

Mr SHAN,
"Caught"?!?!?! Wow! Indicative of you mindset? I should hope not! People contribute freely to temples, churches and mosques, etc. (Bless their "indian" hearts). It is a historical fact that invaders looted temples and even claimed it as a "feat", that much said the for primitive. Tempted I'm sure they were - incapable, as it appears, they were, when it comes to to building economic systems, a fact evident even today - unless of course they find something underground - like oil... which someone else will discover for them - heh! heh! :)

Mr.ShanBaid-You seem to be too much embarrassed and sentimental on the mention of name of Ghazanavi,Gauri and Nader Shah etc. If Rediif runs an article about these treasures, how does it come in the way of constitutional processs ?
Why should any one be alarmed on possibility of neighbours being raided, unless they are also having similar unaccounted hoardings ? Should they not expess happiness and support, instead of attacking the proposer ?
Treasure at Kerala temple is matter national pride. Running articles on ancient treasures will invoke and enhance further pride in glorious history of India. I guess , you may be vary of this last part. If you are not vary, then you should support my proposal of running of articles on this subject.

Treasure at Shri Padmanbhaswamy Temple.
by praveen chachra on Jul 07, 2011 08:55 AM  | Hide replies

The treasures of Lord Vishnu at Shri Padmanbhaswamy temple, is anational treasure. It should be preserved in a proper museum, and people should be allowed to have a glimpse of history n religion. If the treasure has been preserved for so long there is no need to dispose these and use the money for the public. Again politicians of different caste and creed shall siphon off this fund. A tresure is a treasure, it carries the heritage of our country. We do need to preserve it.The government should preserve it, and take action immediately.

In Hyderabad Zoo, a live tigress was drugged, skinned, detoothed and denailed overnight. In the morning, administrator of zoo had the whole area washed before calling the police. I do not know if any one has been brought to book till today.
GandhiJi's Spectacles have been stolen from Wardha (!) ashram.
Ravindranath Thakur(Tagore)'s Nobel prize has been stolen from Shantiniketan.
Pages of BabarNama have been torn away in Bhopal Museum.
In modern times;; File of Purchase Records of Bullet Proof Vests for Mumbai Police is reported missing;;;File of certain parts of approvals etc. Adarsh society is reported missing.
If governments has to be trusted with care and safety of this treasure, there is a lot of risk.
Already they have created a safety risk by pubicising the issue ;whereas formula (for deciding exchange rate of USDollar to Indian Rupee) is a secret.
Treasure is not safe any more. For all we know- a guard will be sitting at the gate; and some one will make a 100 meter tunnel from neighbourhood and siphon the treasure away.

Forcefully extracted from the public by various dynasties
by Sebastian Cherukanam on Jul 07, 2011 08:12 AM  | Hide replies

A lot of absurd comments on who is the actual owner of the wealth found in Sri Padmanabhaswamy temple. I say the only owner of this wealth is the public because it was collected by using the money either forcefully extracted through various taxes levied from the public or unjustified orders by the kings and queens in the past. It must be remembered that such undue taxes were levied even when the public were suffering from extreme poverty, famine, flooding and other such natural calamities.

This hidden wealth and various historical monuments like Pyramid have heart breaking stories to tell. It is full of blood. These are the symbols of the cruelty meted out on the hapless people then. The public then were very strong both mentally and physically enough to suffer all these atrocities and anguish and that is why we are all here now.

And imagine what these kings and queens were doing in temple. They were pretending as though they were going to temple to worship the (non-existent) Gods and idols there but the reality was far from that that is they visited temple for worshipping the wealth they had hidden behind those idols!

Thanks to Kunjan Nambiar:

Chathidum neram vasthravumathupolum-
Othida konduopovanorutharkkum!

The current generation is the only owner of this wealth and therefore, it must be utilized to bring smile on their faces.

(Continue)

all you fellows are discussing as if this treasure is discovered in some archealogical excavations like in the case of pyramids. this treasure has a rightful owner, padmanabha swamy, and is in the actual physical custody of the owner, and the owner has no intention of letting it out for some other purpose. this treasure to a very large extent cannot be liquidated since it has historic cultural and antique value. if some part can be liquidated, it must rightly be used for propogation of hinduism, since the owner is a hindu temple god! anything else is not possible. if any fellow thinks this can be used for charity, then let all the wealth of all religious institutions including all dargas, mosques, churches, come out, and then take a decision. just because someone has counted one lakh crore, it does not become public property!

This is more like ideological stand. It can also be said that Colonial powers looted colonies- so they should compensate. All colonial powers are vary of that demand. Court would need proof that it was forcefully extracted.
However,I would like to submit a suggestion.
Religious institutions should not be allowed to buy land for non religious purposes and expansion. It is already estimated that 30% of planet's land resources are owned by religious institutions; another 30% by governments (mostly railways and defence). 5 Billion civilians have to live in remaining less thann 40%. This includes agriculture as well.
If community needs aplace of worship, then a new place of worship should be made; but that place of worship should not be allowed to buy land from donations.

Such loot is taking place even now. Various religious institutions such as Christian churches in India have also amassed wealth by extracting money from fools called believers and when comparing with that wealth, what is there in Sri Padmanabhaswamy temple is just a drop in the ocean. What are they doing with all these money extracted from fools called believers? Why they are not made accountable? Why the elected governments are not controlling them?

U are wrong my dear friend. the wealth found in the temple is not just drop in the ocean. they have opened only three rroms till now, one is still remaining and that one is bigger than all other rooms. actual figure can only be found once the court finishes the survey. so please wait till that.
