The camel-mounted gun
by hugh mascarenhas on Oct 05, 2012 07:34 PM

Perhaps you have seen the news article in the Times of India dt. 4th October 2012 , with a picture of the Mumbai police with a zamburak confiscated from some haryanvis who claim that it was in their ancestors' possession since the Battle .

The article says that it weighs 25kg and is 20.5 inches long . That would make it a camel-mounted swivel-gun . The features of the mounting are clearly seen in the picture . The muzzle is flared -- I believe for firing grape shot . Is there evidence of such ammunition being used by the afghans ?
I am trying to determine from my hunter friends what the bore of such a cannon could be and what would be the magnitude of the recoil -- for a camel to withstand it .

I believe that this zamburak brigade was the cause of the decimation of the maratha cavalry charge made by Sadashiv Rao Bhau -- which turned the battle in the afghans' favour . Is that correct ?

by sachin warang on Jan 23, 2012 05:25 PM  | Hide replies

This Article is Wrong If Maratha ran away from battlefieled then how Abdalis 50000-60000 Soldiers Killed in the Battle & How Maratha Soldiers 80000-90000 killed in this battle.
Suppose if you hungry 3-4 Days its able to you fight. 20 to 30 Days Maratha Soldiers were eating one time food only, they were not in good position to fought with Abdali But on 14Jan 1761 afterall Maratha fought with Abdali. Abdali won the battle but loss confidence because he saw how the Maratha Soldieres fought till the end. So he never come back again......
Maratha fought for nation but very sad nobody help them Not Rajput,Not Sikhs & Abdali Together the Muslim people in the name of religion. Maratha fought with British till the end....................

In fact todays historians are conveniently hiding the history of Marathas. They uneasily speak of sivaji , but never mentions Peshwas. It was Shreemant Peshwa Baji Rao 1 who ended mughal rule in india. Shreemant Balaji Baji rao must not be remembered for Panipat, but as a liberator of lower doab, upper doab and eastern maharashtra and the one who destoryed the Nawabate of Bengal enabling company to conquer it. historians cannot undo Peshwas ending foreign rule by 1760 ; only hide it

Similarly Sindhia Marathas ruled upper doab till 1803. Saharanpur - wiki pages attest this. The above map is incorrect . Mughals ruled only delhi and were a puppet of Sindhia. Sindhia ruled Agra, and upper doab and haryana before company conquered it around 1803. It was Marathas who ended mughal/foreign rule in India , but the credit went to puny east india company. And,foreign rule ended in india around 1750s while foreign rule ended in Balkans only by 1900. Mughals collapsed to Marathas by 1760 while Ottomans were defeated and Balkans liberated by advanced europeans only by 1900

Why Marathas lost 3 rd battle of Panipat
by Prakash Bedekar on Nov 15, 2011 01:11 PM  | Hide replies

Most important reason being, marathas were betrayed by some of their Generals like Malharrao Holkar for their own selfish motives.
