The long battle of NRIs voting into Indian elections has been the Loksatta party's one of the many good goals and in this context one should appreciate Dr Jayaprakash Narayan, affectionately called as JP, who is the convener of the LSP and sitting MLA from Kukatpally assembly constituency of Andhra Pradesh and many LSP volunteers. Keep it up LSP guys !!! Good show
It is no good by this amendment as long as the NRIs are not permitted to cast their vote by post as in case of the officials on election duty or some such thing. It looks very silly if the govt expects the NRIS to come personally, be physically present & cast their vote;none of the NRIs,I think, has neither time to spare nor is prepared to spend thousands of rupees to spend on exercising their franchise. It is a welcome thing that the Govt has lifted the embargo of ineligibility to vote by the NRIs & that it enables at least those who could be accidentally present in India,to exercise their voting right.Vote by postal ballot should, however, needs to be strictly monitored against bogus modes & fraudulent means.

No,how could it be?How many NRIs,you think, are settled in Pakistan?First of all is Pakistan that much of potential to take avail the services of Indians? It is just struggling for its day-to -day existence. Not even in thousands of Indians are there enjoying NRI status, I certainly feel.

there are more literate people in india than anywhere else. Do you know the literacy rate of india vs. china? Since, for elections it is the proportion of votes gained that matter, literacy rate is what matter and in that metric, india is worse than sub-saharan africa.
Hi Readers, This is a gud news from the Indian govt., but thr is something which also needs to be taken care. If a children born outside India for a NRI then that child is recognized as that particular country citizen but they are not treated/considered as child of an NRI. Instead they(Parents) have to go thru all the monetary struggle from there children school till there college. My humble request is, India govt shud start considering the NRI children, who are born outside India and are foreign nationals, as Indian resident atleast for there education and should have equal right as other Indian citizen children have.
If there is someone who can place this issue or bring to the Ministry of Overseas Indian Affair, Govt. of India attention that would be really great and Appreciated.

There are no issues for children (foreign born) of Indians, they can get a PIO card and get on with any kind of education in India.
Voting should be made through internet or postal. Physical presence is not easy as 11 million Indians r doing their work abroad. Please apply rational thinking while devising such decisions.

If you are so interested in the government building (and nation building) process of your motherland, cant you take a week off and come to India and vote and go? Use that period as a vacation and postpone your regular vacation. I am also living in USA now, but I feel online voting can be easily hacked. And postal voting could be prone to bogus voting too. Better thing is for the NRI to be there and vote.

At least, without postal ballot, it doesn't make sense. This is another loophole of making laws in this 21st century. Imagine, 11 million Indian citizens flying to native places to vote, how much money do they have to spend (Rs. 300 Billion). Any technology on the earth can be made available with such kind of money. Politicians, please wake up and make some feasible laws to work.

Are you willing to pay your part of Rs 27,272 to make this technology avaialble? How many of those 11 million NRIs are willing to pay that much amount?
