When will animals get right to vote?
by Vivek Dev on Feb 04, 2011 12:33 PM  | Hide replies

When will animals, birds, bees, rodents, etc get right to vote? These creatures big and small work harder for India than NRIs. They should get right to vote first as they did not run away to US, UK etc and have been true to India. The government of India has given animals so many rights why right to vote is not given?

dear vivek, if the NRIs did not 'run away' as u put it, you wud not have got a job here in india, that is already teeming with so many useless educated people, with not sense or purpose to the society. let us appreciate the fact that indians go abroad, work hard and live a good quality of life that they cud never get in india, study and contribute to science and development abroad, as they cud never have done the same here owing to the crooks governing us and who will never allow these people to do anything positive for the nation..

@Venkat You consider NRIs as saints and angels. That is the wrong kind of assumption to have. NRIs are also Indians and they can use the rights to push their own agenda and their own interests that may be entirely different from that of resident Indians. The right to vote also gives them right of representation which means it will also be possible for NRIs to become MLAs, MLCs and push their own agenda. Grow up consider the negative side too.

Non-Resident Indians can now cast votes in their home constituencies as the government has notified rules in this regard, fulfilling the longstanding demand of such people estimated to be 11 million.

Big deal, eh? If these 11 million Non required Indians are so eager, let them take the initiative & responsibility (parallel with Govt of course) to:

a) push the demolition of outdated Kangress
b) ease the financial burden on India's shoulders by clearing away at least a fourth of it
c) improve India's social/ communication/educational etc status

Only then will the Govt's & their intention be called heartfelt. Actually this whole affair sucks & is a crafty move by Kangress to garner votes. As you say, the votes can be sent by mail, this is their exact intention. These votes will then be 100% pampered like the EVM's & not one among the world record population of Indians will have the balls or intention (as usual) to catch them by the scruf of their neck.

NRI CAN VOTE IN INDIA - WHAT FOR?
by THEKKA DAMODARAN on Feb 04, 2011 08:41 AM  | Hide replies

The proposal of Govt of India permitting NRI to franchise their vote by coming to their home
constituency in the future is not going to help
them, instead they have to spend lot of hard earned money for coming back to India for the purpose of casting the VOTE, what way it is going to help either (the individual and the
country). It is another trick of the Govt. Once they exercise their voting power in India, by using that record, the Govt will call for the details of their income in foreign countries, and thereafter request the
Enfrocement Department to issue summons for the deduction of income tax or NRI tax (a new
formula the Govt will adopt). Another aspect is that our country is FULL of CORRUPT POLITICIANS who have enough BLACK MONEY in SWISS BANK A/C etc., why should the NRIs take the troubling to casting their votes in favour of these Politicans who will continue to make out COUNTRY poorer and block all the DEVELOPMENTAL ACTIVITES, see the example of present UPA Govt which is facing trouble in all its activities like 2G, CWG, Adarsh Housing Colony, selection of CVC (an officer who is under scanner) what I feel that the NRI must ignore about the above proposal in their own interest.

Why talk nonsense? I am a brilliant engineer and by merit I have excelled in life and now in foreign country, fed up of the corrupt system !I donot want a government job in India because either I have to take bribe or I have to be prepared to be sidelined without promotion and career graph..

It is good that I can vote now.How do you think I am a minister's relative? Do you think that the punjabi cab driver in Australia or a Malayali carpenter in gulf are also some minister's relative? Talk sense brother...

voting via Indian embassy is better
by Jaganath Bharat on Feb 04, 2011 04:48 AM  | Hide replies

Indians abroad should be able to vote via Indian embassy. This is the best and most useful way in democratic nations. Why should you have to go back to your hometown just to vote? National voting should be possible on any Indian territory or Indian mission/embassy.

You need to be India, asses the candidates in your home town, and vote. Voting is not like posting comments on Rediff.

I am sure, you know the air fare which is not less than Rs.50,000 upto your native town depending on the location one is ! My vote will cost me Rs.50,000.

Another this is getting leave from company for voting only !

Every one gets some idea of the candidate of his constituency through friends, relatives, media, etc.

Mr.Bharat has a point here...

First of all I'm talking about national election, not local elections. Even then, I don't think you need to be physically present in order to know what is going on in your hometowns. That's flawed thinking that you have to be physically present in order to be aware, or in order to chose. It is a personal decision, and one can make it anyway and anywhere one wants.

Then YOU should also vote only after personally meeting every candidate.
What you read in newspapers is widely available throughout the world on Internet, in case you knew.... :)

What an intelligent idea.First get the people in India to vote and then think of NRIs.I dont know who will go to India just to vote, spending thousands of dollors.Anyway India is for its favoured people (u know what I mean...quotas) and they will definitely vote.
