This looks impossible but may be effective
by Qamar Alam on Apr 23, 2011 02:48 PM  | Hide replies

If
Govt just do one thing and that is just remove paper currency and enforce the use of electronic money i.e. debit cards and fund transfer through mobile phones and Internet etc.

Then
All the corruption which involve cash exchanging hands will go away, like
...
1. Bribe: All done in cash, no would like to take bribe through check or electronic money transfer
2. Fake currency: all fake currency comes in cash only.
3. Money involve in hot criminal activity, like loot, supari etc all are done in cash.
4. Inflation: inflation is because when ever govt need money they just print it and inject into the system which causes inflation.
5. Money in Swiss bank: all went in cash if it goes through ETM or check it will be in the Govt records.
6. Introduction of electronic money will additionally solve the problem of carry-over change in day-to-day transactions. Lot of resources will be saved in printing and safe-gaurding large number of genuine currency notes and metallic coins. When most of the transactions were done electronically, there wouldn't be need of printing too many paper notes, be it high value or low value.

Pick-pocketers cannot steal anything from cards that gives additional sense of safely. People don't have to carry bulky wallets.

...
there would be a long list of such thing which are just because cash cant not traced who is having how much and from where he got it.

but if govt forces electronic money and stop paper currency then at least 90% of corruption which is just because of cash will not be there.

but it is very difficult to take this harsh step because it will cause chaos in most the Indians who don't understand electronic money
properly and will feel insecurity in using electronic money.

so good solution to this could be to implement it slowly by building infrastructure for it and eliminating the paper bills step by step like to stop the high value currency (like 500/- 1000/-) so that the high value transaction should not be done in cash.
and slowly eliminate all the bills

but for this also people like Anna hazare need to take stand.

But people may not like it because they thing it is not feasible but slowlly use of electronic money is comming up by itself( and it wont take much time just compare the use of mobile phones today and 10 years back) but eleminting the paper currency require goverment intervention

It is impossible to do away with paper currency. But what is possible is that every cash withdrawal / deposit in a bank above Rs. 1 lakh in a month should be done ONLY after the account holder submits an NOC from his ITO. That will surely put a lid on corruption although it may not eliminate it completely.

But politicians will not do it because they are the biggest culprits.

yes politicians will not do it because they are the biggest culprit,
Here when people shout against corruption to me it seems they are saying "except me and my close people nobody else should be corrupt, because our corruption is reasonable and under limit but others does not make any sense"
so I feel better to strike on the root of the corruption tree and and entire tree will die soon.

Everyone knows that most indians have somewhere, sometime compromised on corruption. However, that does not mean their right to speak against corruption is forfeited. If that were so, there won't be a single person to fight against corruption.

My view is that indians are not "inherently" corrupt. it's the "rotten system" that has failed indians. A system which rewards the corrupt while hounds the honest person.

I understand that most of the people are not corrupt by nature but if opportunity comes their way they just en-cash it. so we need to struggle in the right direction so that they should not get opportunity or if they get opportunity
they should not feel safe in being corrupt.
till paper currency is there it difficult to make people feel unsafe in being corrupt.

your honesty should never be lack of opportunity.
when you raise voice against corruption you should have true voice coming out from the core of your heart and should not have any ulterior political motivation
don't take as my statement against mahesh bhutt or anna hazare

Real estate is one business which will give the useless fit for nothing thugs the chance to make disproportionate income by bullying and cheating people. Normal people who are more educated and slogging to make ends meet will end up becoming corrupt to reach the income levels of these fit for nothing thugs. Our PM and FM should take measures to curtail this lot by doing the following according to me.1)Stop providing easy loans to real estate companies.
2)Not releasing the loans already sanctioned.
3)Not restructuring the already released loans due for payment.4)Allowing the natural economic process to take care of the prices of the properties.5)Allowing the companies to become NPA account if the loan due is not paid.

HOPE THIS WILL SET EDUCATED AND PEOPLE SUPPORTING ANNA H. to mobilse more people to support this so that all the INDIANS WITH OUT THE SUPPORT OF THE GOVERNMENT CAN HAVE HOUSES WITHOUT RESORTING TO BECOMING CORRUPT.

Corruption can be tackled only by persuation.
Catch me you can approach has limited success.
Corrupt mind find many ways to bend the laws.
Are the judges, civil servants, academicians, doctors, industrilists, traders, film personalities and politicians really support and involve in this anti-corruption struggle? Everyone can do their bit instead of preaching others.

Even theft and other crimes are not stopped with law so ?
by dharmendra jadoun on Apr 23, 2011 02:18 PM

Even theft and other crimes are not stopped with existing laws so shall we scrape the existing laws and make this country law-less ?

Why you want to move focus away from corruption by bringing in communal bla bla bla and other confusing, propaganda, debatable things?

Theoretically , logically Anna may not be right in his approach but practically he is 100% right.

Anna's campaign will also promote virtuosity among people
by Ujwala Kulkarni on Apr 23, 2011 02:11 PM  | Hide replies

No bill will eradicate corruption from any society as it stems from a human weakness called GREED. Especially so in our society where law enforcement ans passage of justice is suspect.

But Anna's efforts have not gone in vain. He has created awakening among people and also aroused their conscious. Keep up the good work Annaji, please do more to educate people, awaken them to their rights and promote virtuosity among people - like all great men, including religious preachers and saints, have done. This will go a wrong way in mitigating corruption and realizing the dream of wiping every tear from every eye. Lok Pal Bill is not a bad idea in the sense that every agitation has to have a well defined aim. However, it is not the end and due care should be taken to see that the law doesn't persecute innocent and marginally corrupt people, while allowing the real culprits to get away.

Reply to Mahesh Bhat
by Sibasis Nayak on Apr 23, 2011 02:06 PM

Hello Mr Mahesh Bhat,

Our country has been suffering from corruption since the day of her birth(62 Years). The corrupt administration has not done anything to curb it rather they have encouraged it. Powerful people does corruption on the face of public and get away. So what are means left? I think the cleanup of the corruption should starts from the top then only the common man will get courage to fight against this evil. This Jan Lokpal bill may not correct every individual to be good but still this is a right step forward.

Lets not try to dilute this kind of great movement. This is a once in a lifetime movement. Lets support it.

In the long run we should educate our children not to corrupt and be a good citizen.

If the corruption is compromised for long then we all will suffer again. So be aware of that.
