Lack of Coordination between various branches of Defence Ministries, DRDO and Armed forces is quite apparent, given our backward and uneducated approch in our Military Build up. Since our Independence, Shape of our armed forces is getting moulded based on Power Projections of country especially Pakistan, while there is clear neglect of security threat from China which is the real Predator. This is quite apparent on local level as well, where Indian People enemy orientation centered on Pakistan as their ultimate foe, heck many of us don't even know we have borders with China, let alone thinking about basing our Power Projection oriented towards dealing with China. China has done many times more to build its armed forces and its military thinking can be seen in its Economic Growth, Foreign Policy, Sports. In contrast our Military thinking is more based on Symbols rather then substances, we often rejoice at our military victories in last several decades, but we don't see what price we are paying for it and how we may have detered our enemies to impose wars on us at that time.

china really dosent have much idea about muzlim prob and about paK...it is now building train line to bangladesh and maybe to pak, too. all the muzzies will take train to heart of China and create havoc soon. then they will need help of India.. really in my view, chinese ppl are very prone to religious conversion esp Islam.
I suppose the correct approach here will be to simultaneously acquire foreign high tech weapons as well as continue with the indigenous development, Note that cost should not be the factor now for ensuring the security of the country, the time that is lost due to indecision & delays due to political reasons must be covered up with quick & fast decisions & strenthening the armed forces with a powerful punch of weapons. The onlt fear is the intervention of vested interest which has always been the issue in defence procurements irrespective or whatever forum & shape it takes has been a matter of concern ultimately resulting in paying higher price, Acquiring weapons from foreign sources must not come in the way to indigenous development, I am sure just as the Sukhoi has added strength to our forces, these procurements will definitely add punch & will be a welcome adition to face any threat. Last but not the least, buying from America should be the last option particularly very critical weapons like the fifth generation fighter jets etc
Views brought out by Abmiral Raman Puri are the sum-total of the expectations of the 'USERS'of the weapons and sensors inducted in the Armed Forces.Self-reliance is not only the need of the hour but has been so for decades.DRDO is doing a great job but every Chief wants to leave a mark during his tenure of two to three years hence the quickest way to do so is buy off the shelf from those who want to keep their factories going and reducing their inventories of 'war-reserves'.Systems and sensors can be up-graded from time-to-time provided we have sound platforms to operate them from and policy directions from the Government are clearly laid down.

In indian context, it is the otherway round. Govt. allocating huge funds for the defence but corrupt bureaucrats and politicians along with a very few generals misusing it for their own benefit.
to all those IT coolies who have found their new found comfortable life in states come here to put forth their rubbish.
Even the best of brains in engineering at IITs mostly end up as IT contractors (if not coolies) and management dummies. Not a single person goes into the R&D of his particular domain and learn first hand what problems we face or as a matter of fact what problems other countries faced before they erached what they are today.
What more our so called IT coolies and contractors based on their intellectual capacities can only quote nokia, or infosys or hcl or google.... again IT coolie minds only see IT companies.
With a country having so many young people and all a bunch of IT clowns... its natural for RnD to take a backseat. everyone wants a fat salary, big house and a wife that resembles aishwarya rai or katrina kaif. the whole education and learning and job are all there to serve these ends. with such low life aims what more can u expect ?
in china govt. encourages expariates in setting up their own research labs. money is poured into their work and professors work autonomously and have pretty much their own say.
i say its good to have professors dictating terms than some bunch of clowns acting as management gurus sans brains

So the point you are making is that government should make investments for R&D. Where are those investment? I cant see them? You walk into any government office and all you can see are paan stains. Major innovations in Europe and US were and still are funded by government. Our corrupt netas prefer to steal money and keep that in Swiss accounts. So why blame the IT coolies. At least they are making honest money. And the trickle down effect is creating more jobs in other sectors. Unless we have a meritocracy, where IAS officers are promoted to the posts of ministers, and this constant nautanki of elections is done away with, we will not be able to do away with corruption or make the kind of progress that we really deserve.

its good. the yellow monkeys that u call so despicably are far more better than people like u. they serve their country well and they are reasonable and patriotic.
our people cannot take criticism. nor can they take a good advice. i am workign for country's RnD although i have other lucrative offers. so that puts me in a better league than u i suppose.

Wnaderlust,
It is the other way round...bright people go into IT and management consulting because they will never get their in organizations like DRDO! There is high level of bureaucracy and senior would hog the limelight in case a junior develops or invents something new!
I have friends who have left such organizations and come to the privete sector because of this reason.
Also people in IT and management and doing their bit for the development of the nation...there is no point in being jealous or calling them coolies because it won't change a thing.
Conversely if government decides to give defense R&D and development to private sector, you will see how all of sudden great concepts and things would be created.

the point is about inspite of havin so many lakhs of people bein employed why the IT companies are not taking headon with microsoft or guugul and apple etc?
Yeah, at times of even getting back yours and my lost lands to the Army in those landscams (including yesterday's revelations about army chief's involvement in the kargilLandScam), i have to continue playing the banjo on your behalf too while you have to running behind them to get it back!!!

You are the one who needs to not just play the banjo but setup a music academy to get back your lost lands from the Army!! Hahahahahahahaha.

Just self-defence when I was getting attacked by the pro-defence bigots :) I believe in mixing reality with patriotism whereas this Dev idiot believes in jingoism!! Hence, the retort back.

I dont belong to extremes like you to either say fuckOff to Army or hug the Army tight!! I do a simple basic thing called: REALITY CHECK in order to separate the good apples from the bad ones!!

I have never!! You are the one unable to answer any of the counter statements. I believe the "in-duty" defence personnel should never be in the media whereas retired defence personnel are the best ones to deal with it!! Go back and read my post!

Thats precisely what I am saying: Raman Suri needs to be deal with real defence issues and not change his profession as a media reporter!!

have no interest in ur posts ..go play the banjo..and leave real defence issues to ppl like Raman Suri. i have interest in his well written article
this article is written by a thorough professional and a thinking brain. unlike the brash brainless fellows who sit in upper echelons of armed forces brass.
remember, in a war its the numbers which had always won the day and will continue to do so in future too. taking example of few battles fought by handful of people against hordes and applying it to machiens is plain BS. tactical advantage cannot be applied to strategic.
India needs indigenous and large number of systems to engage enemy for long drawn low profile conflict. hitech gadgets won't take u anywhere in wars. mind u... germans had comparable best technology during ww2 but their numbers were too short and they had too many enemies just like us. we have too many hostile neighbours. believing that state-of-the-art will save our necks will be idiotic at best
