Crisis to Crisis
by Krishna Govindan on Nov 30, 2010 11:02 AM  | Hide replies

Mr. Sreenivasan may be a very experienced writer and diplomat and what not. But let him not confuse matters for us.
1) Is he telling us that 2G and 3G are the same? By what yardstick can we accept this? The CAG's 'presumed loss" is based on this hugely erroneous presumption.
Next what guarantee is there that this huge "presumed loss" if extracted by the Government would not have been passed on by the Telcos to the ultimate consumers? We the citizens of this country have to understand that the Governments (be they ruled by the Congress or the BJP or the Left Alliance or the JD) always increase taxation rates without corresponding benefits to the citizens. So we Indians are always better off without shelling out money for ever increasing requirements.
2) Does he mean to say that every building and facility being constructed will be spic and span even at that stage? (construction stage) The images which were gleefully splashed by the media during the build up to the CWG were of these buildings. The media went to town predicting dire consequences and utter chaos. Not a soul was seen later when the games went on well. Of course we will always have people who will cry hoarse about the corruption. Mr. Sreenivasan is not expected to fall into that group.
Journalism needs to be balanced and fair. Otherwise it becomes trash to some and music to some.

My point seems to have been missed. The point is that higher the licence fee paid, the higher would have been the charges extracted from the consumers.
I did not say that there was no corruption. Only said that everybody was on the take.

Krishna, you did not understand properly. 2G and 3G are same in relation to loss of revenue calculation because the spectrum of 3G has a value in 2010. And this will certainly form basis for the value of 2G in 2008 and not a value of 2001. Understand, there were not many telecom companies in 2001 as compared to today. And more important inrelation to 2G scam not about simple revenue loss. It is about favouratism given to few companies and float the rules and made an entry through back door. 85 such licenses were acquired who were not eligible. If there would have been eligible, why did the govt sent notices to them now for cancellation. Conceptually, the report is good and this report not only talks about 2G but corruption in general and ashamed we are.

You are right Krishna Govindan!2G & 3G are not same! The 2G base is very huge compared to 3G,so 2G should have generated more revenue for Governmemt ,but it is 3G which has generated more revenue. The loss to the Government is obvious,if you are willing to see it. If you close your eyes, then there is no loss at all!

You miss my point Sir. The point is that had these companies paid this R176,000 crores, they would have EXTRACTED this amount and more from simple consumers like us. And this huge amount of money would simply have been misused and gobbled down by our netas and babus. I do hope that you will see this point. And by the way I have my eyes wide open.

In India the best profession is politics. No other profession can guarantee a safe, secure and high paying job like politics.
Every Indian should aspire to be a politician.

Every politician is to mint money, earlier stronger Rajas were doing the same with weaker ones, UPA has already earned enough at least for next 10-15 years, now they should hand over reign to NDA before they snatch. At least in present democratic system, one should not be kept aside, else problems like Naxals, Maoists will haunt.

Corruption & Scam to the Extreme.
by vijaykumar SV on Nov 30, 2010 09:54 AM  | Hide replies

Only removing the ministers from their post is not going to solve anything. They should be punished in such a way that no other politician should dare to commit such crimes in future. This has to be taken very seriously by the Leaders of India, to survive Democracy in India. Otherwise, in few years India is going to get divided like Russia. I am very sorry to say this because, everyday a new political party is formed in India.

Completely agree with you boss, but unfortunately the evil politicians precede the good ones.
we can find only a handful of them and in this scenario it would be very difficult. Really disappointed with our Politicians especially the Regional Parties of South. May God open his eyes on India

Congress has to pay for this.. They only in the regime of Indira Gandhi has supported the regional parties like DMK etc. to make them as a force.. In 1979 itself, there is a clear scam was found against Karunanidhi and CBI filed the case also. However, Indira Gandhi intervened it and save Karunanidhi.. Now congress is paying for the same.. As Anil Ambani says "After all this is Congress Govt only na, we can purchase anything from there"...

Shameless Indians
by Sri Das on Nov 30, 2010 09:47 AM

Sorry to say this for the heading being myself an Indian. India should have grown by heaps and bounds and should have learnt professionalism, which will not happen due to the politicians/corporates nexus. The corporates have been influencing each and every decision of the government's policy, which is unavoidable as every politician runs a business apart from the policitian job that means they have two or more jobs that way they were not able to concentrate on the political front as well. We should keep this in mind that every scam comes out it will hamper the fame of India and it will lose its shine which by defaut is going to happen. It is the youngsters passion and drive made India where it is. But then our youngsters are getting older now by age, and when they grow older, they gain experience, which is invaluable and that is what is going to support India. Not Rahul, prakash karat or gadkari. Hope, the goverment take a firm stand against corruption. It is not going to help anybody especially the country, India.

Let's not worry about India's Image outside
by Shri Hegde on Nov 30, 2010 08:41 AM  | Hide replies

Image is nothing, reality is everything. India is land of Scams, we are only seeing tip of the iceberg in these exposed scams. It's only 10% of the scams, there are many which doesn't get noticed or reported as we all are part of those scams in RTO office to loan recovery to excise to customs. Until the corrupt and inefficient are held accountable and punished severely nothing is gonna change.

By showing the negative side of our country will not solve the problem.Talk about positive side also, which will create a sense of coming back to top.we also like to know the untainted ,honest, hard working persons who are working behind the curtain to develop our country.we will be encouraged rather by this discouraging news.
