Read carefully & comment what he said about UN seat
by vijaya kumar on Nov 08, 2010 06:51 PM  | Hide replies

"That is why I can say today — in the years ahead, I look forward to a reformed U.N. Security Council that includes India as a permanent member." The announcement brought the loudest applause of Obama's speech. But it does not mean that India will join the five permanent Security Council members anytime soon. The U.S. is backing India's membership only in the context of unspecified reforms to the council that could take years to bring about.

The current security council members are in no hurry to expand it - first it dilutes their own clout, second - it makes the council more unmanageable. It looks like this endorsement is good, but only time will tell. We should NOT break out the champagne!

That is okey na,it is the begining, they cannot revert back from this position,UNSC is becoming irrelevant,so US will wish countries like India,Japan, etc join the UNSC to give more teeth...

UNSC seat is symbolic,in real sense UNSC has no relevance in today's world..the world has moved far ahead of 2nd world war and cold war days..and China will not Veto India's membership, its a wrong idea..today everything depends on business, and India is a big market, all countries know this..
