The rule was not made without proper reasons by our forefathers. They knew that genetic disorders would be more prevalent when they marry their siblings. Parsis are the biggest example and it is feared that they would be extinct soon!
Now, they also said that as long as you are able to trace up to seven generations, you should AVOID marrying withing the same gotra, because, by this time, the dilution of the genes is so much that it is as good as not marrying withing the gotra at all. if one is not able to trace up to 7 generations, they may marry but with the accepted risk, if any, of congenital diseases in the offspring. But nowhere they ordered killing of the couple if they went against the convention.
In that context, this case will fit well within the rarest of the rare cases and the judiciary has awarded correct punishment, since no one can take law to his/her hands.

sir, but unfortunately, in India the verdict does not end with one court...there are so many other options and upper courts available for the culprits to escape punishment...

All that theories about genetic disorders and the genes "diluting" to a point of extinction are all humbug! If a girl A has a hereditary genetic disorder, how will its effect on the next generation change by her marrying a boy B from a different "Gotra"? In any case, the genes may get transferred to her offspring, whether she marries within the "Gotra" or outside! Could any of you "doctors" out there please elaborate? And for your kind information, the Parsi community is facing the threat of extinction not due to any genetic reasons!

Except in Haryana, Rajasthan and Western UP, no where else people follow the rule that marriage shouldn't happen in same gotra.
What will happen to castes where a single gotra is predominant?

You are wrong, marriage withinthe same Gotra is not allowed from Kerala to Kashmir

Ignorance is bliss. Just go to MP and Chattisgarh. There are many castes where 95% of people belong to single gotra and nobody cares if both the bride and groom belong to same gotra. Also there many they won't accept that you are from same caste if you can't prove a family relation with them.
INFACT CAPITAL PUNISHMENT MUST BE INCREASED. IN MURDER CASE THERE IS ONLY 14 YEARS IS GIVEN THAT IS VERY LITTLE CONSIDERED TO LIFE EXPECTANCY OF A PERSON. ALSO SEVERAL OTHER CASES THE PUNISHMENT GIVEN IS VERY LESS SO PEOPLE DON'T MIND DOING THE CRIME AGAIN AND AGAIN.

And Goverment have spend for their life? They must send to some uninhabited islands of Lakshadweep or Andamans with out any luxury, and allowed live their lonely life away from the civilized community.
Those who violate indian law and take lives of others in such cases must be dealt in strongest manner. There must be a separate law to also impose heavy financial penalty on entire khap etc. Penalty must be in crores so as those who do such things must cough up huge amounts and learn a lesson. Mere punishing five or ten persons is not going to solve the problem.
