Mr.Surendra Bharghava, They did say that the trains were running on time; people attended office on time. At what cost? It is the Govt's responsibility to make its employees to run trains on time and to attend office on time, with the available rules. You don't need an Emergency to do that. The real reason for imposition of Emergency was to perpetuate Indira Gandhi's rule after she was disqualified by the Allahabad High Court and to 'democratically' bring Sanjay Gandhi to power as the dictator. He was as lousy as the to-day's Rahul Gandhi. What did Emergency mean to the common man? He can't get any news from an independent source; the police can enter any house at any time and arrest people without any warrant: just one example: a bright young Engg student in Kerala, was picked up from his hostel in the night and shot dead at point blank range. The reason: he was a 'suspected' Communist.Later it was established that this boy was not a Communist, it was a case of mistaken identity. The cruelty in this case did not end here; his father went to the Court against this 'crime' by the State. The Court said DURING EMERGENCY THE CITIZEN DID NOT HAVE THE RIGHT TO (HIS) LIFE. It was because, Indira Gandhi had amended the Consitution, after putting all the Opposition MPs in jail and only with her party memebers in the Parliament, which removed all the Fundamental rights guaranteed by the Constitution. Hope this answers your question.

just the tains reaching on time etc is a small thing. A democatric nation is built on the foundations of civil liberty, freedom of speech, listening to criticism, debating. that is more important.

DEar Mr. Surendra,
SO u need emergency to do all this....
This is a fundamental.
Congress has been in power for 85% of time and all they could do is to make train run on time and make ppl attended their jobs on time for 2 yrs of emergency.
Its like saying Taliban was good for Afghanistan.
