American Response
by Al Ringer on Jun 11, 2010 10:32 PM  | Hide replies

We Indians are all gah-gah about the Bhopal judgment. We can all agree it is too little too late. We are also mad that W.Anderson was let-off very easy and in a VVIP style.

Now American is expecting that the court verdict will bring closure to the issue. America has said there is no question of reopening the case from their side. America also hinted that growing US-India strategic relationships would be jeopardized if India harps too much on Bhopal issue.

The question to ask is WHY the lone Superpower which is facing another industrial disaster at home with B.P oil spill is pulling all the stops to get justice while showing a blind eye to the circumstances in Bhopal? Is it greed? Is it apathy towards others lives? Is it Superpower arrogance? Will it respond in the same way had the disaster occurred in U.K or Canada or Germany or Australasia? Heck NO.

In my view here lies the problem:
1. America has NO TRUST in our legal framework.
2. America has NO TRUST in our Judge's integrity.
3. America has NO TRUST in our police work.
4. America has NO TRUST in our investigative work.
5. America has NO TRUST in our total ability to arrive at justice.

Therefore, will America subject its citizen W.Anderson to a system they see as completely FLAWED? Heck NO.

If we don't agree with AMERICA'S assessment of our system just look at our BHOPAL verdict. And look at the DANCING by political parties after the verdict.

Do we TRUST our own systems? Let's not FOOL ourselves.

Arjun Singh helped Anderson but...
by S Shrikanth on Jun 11, 2010 09:36 PM

Who would believe that such a huge scandal had occurred and the PM Rajiv Gandhi was unaware of this. Arjun Singh only executed orders from his PM who was under pressure from US to give a safe passage to Anderson.

Now the whole Congress party in big trouble is preparing a game plan to find a scape goat for this scandal, and save Late Rajiv Gandhi (actually Sonia Gandhi).

We need a revolution.. Time is now..
by Manish Kumar on Jun 11, 2010 08:50 PM

This is not only the question of bringing Mr. Anderson to justice. What justice, even if he would have been here, a 2 year sentence after 26 years and that too bail immediately on Rs 25000 (approx $ 500) bond. The mockery is upon us countrymen. How many wake up calls do we need to do a complete overhaul and reform the judiciary, police and other investigative agency, the bureaucracy, and least the politician. Why this paltry punishment was only given to some mgt people of Union carbide? What was the responsibility of our bureaucracy who approve and authorize such dangerous industry to operate in a densly populated area. Where are our industrial safety auditors? I request we citizen and media to bring out the names of all those govt machinary people who allow such an industry to operate with all safety steps thrown to winds. What do we do with Mr. Cheif minister, who claim to have personally inspected the factory and briefed the assembly that it was safe? Why judiciary and investigative agencies can't see this? And how dare CJM campare this with a car accident? Has he gone completely nuts or is blinded under the corruption? Rather insulting the poor victims, he should be silent if he is not competent enough to call spade a spade. How long our system will only be governed by the archaic principles of procedural accountability, even when the procedures have long back become obselete. When will the era of true accountability begin? Only a revolution can save us now...

Anderson could've deposited kickbacks in Rajiv Gandhi's swiss
by satyanand kumar on Jun 11, 2010 08:47 PM  | Hide replies

Anderson could have deposited huge sum in Rajeev gandhi's swiss AC after the help he recieved from the duo Arjun singh and Rajiv Gandhi.

then CS of Rajiv gandhi, P C alexander intimated this. see the article in TOI

"
The Congress party on Friday strongly rejected a former prime ministerial aide P C Alexander's indication that the then prime minister Rajiv Gandhi had helped Warren Anderson, the CEO of Union Carbide Corp in 1984, escape from the country within days of Bhopal gas tragedy.

Alexander reportedly stated that Gandhi and then Madhya Pradesh chief minister Arjun Singh were directly in touch with each other over the escape of Anderson from the country barely days after the world's biggest industrial disaster in Bhopal Dec 2-3, 1984.
