Going by Name ...mine looks better than yours ...but who knows you may be a more genius .
If they dont go out of box you wont be having Laser Guided pods fitted on Jaguar . You wont have MIRVed AGNI 3/5 .
Your judgement is based on some pre conceived notions that these DRDOs are full of people with wiered name and who do everything for promotion . Come on buddy rise above .
Cheers

Neo : What you say is correct. These organisations have not been found wanting in conception of weapon systems. The issue is of development and deployment. They have been poor at this.

We must encourage our domestic agencies, but they must also realise the armed forces have to fight with contemporary weapons with our enemies. If a domestic agency is developing a system, then we dont import such systems. In the end, if they do not follow promised schedules, then there are large holes in our defence capability.

Nonetheless, the new path being adopted is joint development of weapon systems like the Brahmos and FGFA.

It is also proposed two private companies in India would be asked to develop futuristic systems with the armed forces having cleared the critical parameters they want. They will be given a schedule. They will have to demonstrate the developed systems as scheduled. The company whose product matches the requirement would be awarded the contract. The company which looses would have also lost all the developmental costs.

Once this is in place, Indian armament industry would have undergone a sea change.

Indian Patriot BasED Air Security
by D goel on Jul 21, 2010 04:39 PM  | Hide replies

D. Goel pkl. afternoon, 4.55pm, July 21, 2010,Wednesday,
It is always necessary before you can design your Air-Defence Squadrons based on indigenous Technology developed by your own Air-technologists, you import the best Developed system from advanced Defence Systems in the West.
Patriots are as such most welcome defence Vigilantes of India's Skies. But any true patriot would not be Happy if for all foreseeable future we are to be dependent
On imported Services from West , that can be switched off at their own sweet Will.
We must put thewager to our own designers and technologists to develop our own air -defence system with Rockets , Air-crafts and Missiles all produced from basic materials available to us in our own country. This is highly needed
while we are challenged by our willy northern neighbour who can spite us by cutting his own nose.

Yup ..I do agree . We are still in the process of doing the Integrated Testing of our PAD or so called the missile defense shield . You would be aware that the next test is in August .
As far as buying Patriot :) from US ..these are just some good bites from US in order to secure teh 126 MMRCA deal .And mind you the defense brass are not so stupid to buy those :) . I would agree that we are in talks with Israel for "iron dome" that willact as a shield against terrain hugging Cruise missile ..mostly Babur from Western Neighbour .
Cheers

do you want india to stop buying military hardware and instead spend money to improve the infrastructure which means we will NOT buy any military hardware. This will open India to the ruthles attacks of our western neigbour who are hell bent on creating trouble.

Valmik, do u want us to stop buying defence equipment just for the facts that we are facing problems in some areas. Idiot, with what face can we guard our borders if our soldiers are equipped with primitive weapons. Sitting there in your cool home, will u play the role of guardian to starve off enemy attacks? You have got rocks in your brains.

Before buying, setup spare sparts manufacturing units̷
by ankesh on Jul 21, 2010 04:32 PM  | Hide replies

India,a dreaming superpower,
1.india has to setup spare parts manufaturing units. We should be able to produce spare parts of this warheads,by,re -engineering.
Otherwise,it will be like MIG-21…which was used to make our beloved pilots commits suicide, while training(till now we did not receive spare parts,of course it’s a outdated war plane).
2.one more thing,we can do is ...close all the DRDO units...they are all samosa eaters....they can be sent to mining factories ,as labours.
3.Maintain a good relation with Israel,as they know ,how to do reengineering effectively

Yes ...DRDO is a Samosa eater because :
1. It developed Agni of 1500KM range .
2. It developed Agni of 2500KM range .
3. It developed Agni of 3500KM range .
4. It developed Agni of 5000KM range .
All Nuclear Capabale .
It made the Arjun Tank ..which now the Army has accepted and in reality knows that its better than T-90.
5. It made Nuclear Submarine Arihant albit with Russian help .
6. It made Brahmos .
7. It made NAG , AKASH , TRISHUL .

And it was late ..why because no one ever helped us , except Russia and that too with a heavy price .

I would better shut you off than shutting DRDO .

Cheers

Time to keep aside patriotism

then y army Rejected so many weapons...most of the missiles u mentioned, were not so effective as they claimed to be....tats y they conduct repeat missile test for past 20 years..will do for next 20 years...if we are so confident that these missiles are efficient,y we are begging to russia to give their technology....

there will be more and more growing assymetry vis-a-vis pak with all these procurements... in few years indian nuclear and conventional weapon systems will be numerous... that can exactly give india a chance to directly hit at paki targets with less damage to india. pakis on other hand would be greatly intimidated and won't plan major ops like kargil. then our only focus is to ward off china. for that we have to make huge headways on infrastructure and economic fronts.

by Barkha Gupta on Jul 21, 2010 04:23 PM  | Hide replies

Its sad to see such wasteful expenditure being done by the government which has almost over 40% of its population under the poverty line.

These same funds can be used for humanitarian purposes and for upliftment of poor, backwards and minorities.

I hope some sense prevails and our government curtails its defence expenditures substantially.

The reason people talk like this is because military service is not compulsory in India. When it is made compulsory for all able-bodied males in India, we will hear a different tune altogether because each person will have a near-and-dear one in the armed forces. To ensure their safety, they will lobby for arms incorporating the latest technology. Presently, most people do not feel the heat that our armed forces are facing. Somehow, all these seem remote necessities.

What is so special about a Trainer aircraft?

Is it not possible to train on the original itself?

And why is it so difficult to obtain Trainer aircraft, that India has taken over twenty years to finalize a purchase?
