Yes Absolutely Right !!
by dev freyas on Jan 09, 2010 03:15 PM  | Hide replies

I don't understand whats the point in the headline. In India, we have the Maharashtrians who don't want UP and Bihari's around. We have Tamilians who don't want any Hindi speaking, paan spitting laloos around. Bengali's don't want any poor Oriya's around. Goans and the NE states don't want the rest of Indians around. In J&K , well if your around you may not survive for too long. Likewise with people from the rest of the States. Draw your own conclusions.

MOTIVE FOR PROVIDING EDUCATION TO FOREIGNERS
by Ramadas on Jan 09, 2010 03:12 PM

Any country that provides education to foreigners is not for the dollars the students bring in. The vast pool of students are expected to play a vital roll in sustaining and expanding trade relations especially with a country of a billion people. Unfortunately the iliterates in Australia do not see this. The situation now is beyond the control of the two governments. Each individual, therefore, has think it over and decide the best course of action for ones safety and survival.

Indian dudes is Autralia has to be careful
by tamil boy on Jan 09, 2010 03:10 PM

Indian dudes is Autralia has to be extra careful, specially at night. I have not been to Australia, I am assuming all places has its rough suburbs.
I am sure, I was not the only and will not be the only student who worked at night to pay for university courses and living expenses.

Just take this extra precuation.

When I was finishing work work at 2-3am, I always asked for a taxi home,or got a lift from the manager or assitant manager.
Please networked and make good friend with locals in the place you are working, and be not afraid to ask and negotiate at work for your safety if you are working (like most of these jobs) in a rough or dodgy neighbourhood.
If the Local dudes and girls get to know you as a person- you are not just a foriegn student anymore- you are a name.
Example use humour and irony to explain the situation, like "your dodgy neighbours will be looking for curry tonight" or something like that to make refusing a request a litle bit harder.
There will always be student who will worked part-time abroad, they will know its a risk- but without taking risk, there can be no reward- specially if students are from modest background.

This the main issue, I have seen people from all over the country sell whatever they have and go to other countries and beg. We need to control population and effective governance both are not happening. Fault is ours. Mr Cook has identified Australia and whites think Australia their property. status of Indians are in between human and animals that is why we are treated like this. You cannot get any justice. Keep our house in order.

Simple solution for Australia
by anand datar on Jan 09, 2010 02:48 PM  | Hide replies

The Australian Govt should stop giving work-permits to all outsiders. Just study and go away. Then this problem will be resolved.

Then Indians will not go there. Because Indians are going there not only for study, but to settle there after study. Local people understand this. Indians are not safe there anymore....

by Anand Krish on Jan 09, 2010 02:47 PM  | Hide replies

Most of the aussies are decent and helpful lot. Indians shoudl stop talking in local languages like Hindi or panjapi when in Public and stick to only English . This will solve lot of problem.

I agree. Imagine a scene if you are stuck with a group of people talking in foreign language, a simple look at you with mischievous smile can lead to lot of misunderstaing. An I think most of Indians are good at invading other people's privacy!

'loss to aussi economy." Do you have any idea about Aussie economy? Do you know what is the GNP of Australia and how much of it is contributed by Hindi film shootings? and the students who go to as
ustralia from India? It is negligible.

Aussies are overall most decent people .. far better than Indians I can say. People liek SM Krishna and other jobless politicians are only provoking Aussies by btheir irresponsible statements.

Totally agree with Anand Krish, the Ausralian GDP is around 1 trillion dollars, and the entire overseas education sector is around 17 billion (about 40 % of this income is from India), so even if the entire Indian students boycott, the impact to the trillion dollar economy will be negligible. Also we must be mindful that the Australian Universities are now diversifying their risk by attracting students from Vietnam/Cambodia etc. So I guess boycott will not make a difference. With regards to national income from Indian movies, it will also not make any difference to Australia.

However what will make a huge difference is IF indians boycott Australian companies etc...and also if India imposes trade sanctions on Australian imports...the reason this will work to Indian's favour is that Australia is a capitalist system...and when Australian companies will not get access to one of the largest markets in the world...that will give the shivers.

Australai exports mostly minerals, iron ore to India at a competitive rate. India can always pay higher price and import it from elsewhere. There is enoughdemand for such depleting natural resource.s

India has the 3rd largest Iron ore (Hematite) deposit in the world...so India does not even need iron ore from Australia....there is no strategic interest for India however Indian markets are VITAL for Australia....especially for the future.....because Australian companies need to diversify their market risk, currently they are all dependent on China for growth....they need to diversify this risk...so it is actually more important for Australia to have a good relations with India...IF Indians boycott Australian products....this will be a big thing. Times NOW should strat something like this!. I guess that will be a powerful message from India.

However Iam not too sure if India has the politicaal will to impose trade sanctions, the politians see helpless/inadequate & disingenuous. When India tested their Nuclear bomb many years ago, Australia was one of those countries which imposed trade sanctions...so there is a precedent. But...Indian politicians never take any big decisions!! Its sad, but true!
