Australia is a third preference for students opting for international education destinations. Almost 40 percent of Indian students who opt for international education destinations prefer the U.S., followed by 25 percent for the UK and 20 percent for Australia. The rest are spread across Canada, Singapore, Dubai, New Zealand and other countries. Now, however, Australia's loss, in terms of losing its prominence as a lucrative destination for higher studies, may be U.K. and Canada's gain, say industry observers.
Students are wary of opting for the U.S., which attracts the highest number of students from India, because it is still suffering from recession. Also, the cost of studying in the UK and Canada is cheaper than Australia. This is because U.K. and Canada have one-year Master's degrees, the Australian equivalent being for two years. Upesh Savla, Managing Director, Gee Bee Education said, "A student shells out around Rs.10-15 lakh in the U.K. and Rs 14-15 lakh in Canada for a Master's degree. In Australia the cost for the same degree works out to around Rs.18-25 lakh."

actually racism is quite worse. look at how aborigines have been wiped out in aus, us, canada etc.
the problem can be avoided by NOT going to australia. the rat's out. and we know that there IS racist overtones in the attacks. people are insecure there and do not agree with the government.
Govtt must take steps and must guide to the people via newspapers and issue them guidelines regarding students going to australia for further studies.the same courses are available over here also.but due to caste system people feel shame to do the same work in india.they proudly do the same work in australia, canada, usa etc.Indians must learn a lesson from these attacks that respect the work in own country. 1AUD=42rs but i attack means 1AUD=0rs loss of life tensions loss of bread earner for the family. why paying 5-7 lakhs for the cheap courses and doing labour over there part time???? do same work here.start cleaning own country. learn some lessons from these attacks our image is not so good at world level. we are considered dishonest people around the world.

FIRST REMOVE RACISM FROM INDIA THAN FROM OTHER COUNTRIES..............

So you cant go ?. Stay back in India and enjoy your anti social activities.
Why do our students go for study there when similar courses are available here ? This article speaks about an " accounting student " in Australia. If he is going to come back here anyway, he should be reading the Indian Accounting Standards and not some foreign country's.
Going for higher studies is one thing, but going there to do ordinary courses is something they can avoid with all the attacks. This is what S M Krishna also says. Inspite of all these attacks, our students are still travelling to Australia. Why go there knowing about the risks and then complain ?

Indian Govt should encourage voluntary organisations at our international airports urging students rethink before boarding by placing hard facts in printed form and warn that the govt would not be responsible for their suicide mission

I agree, Problem is more of social life here in India, only better earning people or good looking job people get better social status here. Other lower income job seekers are looked down by almost everyone, no wonder their own parents too. It's our dirty mentality, unfortunately. We have to come out of this web and live a life which makes you feel good and forget rest, whihc easier said than done. Moreover, during marriage it's even bigger problem everyone wants high income life partner.
I strongly feel we need some education at school level to explain how to live a life and let others to live a life. Basic understanding is quite weak in our system.

They ARE supposed to come back. If they want to stay there, then it is at their own risk. No use complaining.
Australia is a land of convicts. The British used to deport hardened criminals to australia. The citizen of australia are all off springs of these convicts. So we cannot expect decent behaviour from them. For example look how australian cricket team behaves. They behave like rowdies and criminals. It is because their forefathers were hardened criminals.

And dont forget the way the Aborigins have been dealt with over the years. Police in Australia are the biggest convicts of Racism.
IF Australians would be in India and they would be stealing jobs from us then what do you think our Indias will do? They do the same exact thing. I dont think we would go to kill someone but we definately hate and hurt them.
I am not justifying their act but exporing one of the bad part of human being.
If indians even do that, I can still think that they are doing becuse many indians are still starving in india. But Australians..??? Cant digest their hatred... They supposed to be better than us but unfortunately they are not..

Just for your info Rushi,
Australians occupying Australia has been for just around 400-500 years. The original occupiers of the island didnt ask White Aussies to go back to their country, even when they were stealing their wealth - let alone work.
There are places on earth which have been occupied just because of recent migration, and those lands dont belong to just the sons of old migrants - they should always be open for new migrants just to provide equal opportunities to all.

Don't forget their origins....these were originally convicts...and so shall they remain !!
Inda imports more from Australia than it exports to it. Cutting off trade links will hurt Australia more. Does the Congress government care for Indians enough to take this step?

I agree with you Rushi. And add to it saying, Indian Government should show more strictness in dealing with Australian counterparts, making sure our other relations dont get affected because of this.
