by jet on Dec 10, 2010 07:59 PM  | Hide replies

we can see some indian commies feeling bad for China and saying how we will feel if A Roy is given. This scum in India failing to understand that Liu is a patriatic chinese who is not asking for breaking up of China, A Roy is talking about breaking India and separating regions like Kashmir, NE. Liu never talked about Tibet or Ugher. The commie scum is real chines sh1t eaters.

Who cares if Liu is patriotic & A. Roy is unpatriotic. I stil feel India did a GREAT job. Even if we support China, they will snub us, might as well snub them first & keep them in their place.

What a contrast

Undeserving Obama who could collect the prize and a deserving Liu who could not collect the prize, thanks to the skewed justice in China. A nation that today stands on the cusp of dominating the world economy. Can we afford to let such a thing happen? It seems we are headed for disaster. It was good that atleast India for once showed spine and did not boycott the event.
This should be an opportunity used by all heads of states to reprimand China on its human rights violations, regardless of their market potential and their economic strength.

This is why it's called "Kaliyug" the economic dominance at the cost of suppression of basic human spirit of freedom.

They have made this Nobel prize more effective that it could have EVER been without their going ballistic.

They should have just said something to the effect of, "We understand your position. Yes, rights and freedoms are important, but for the good of the Chinese people, yada yada yada..", and let some relative accept the prize, and *also* made sure that the winner was provided security, etc.

Nobel price to the Empty Chair is going to be the next Tank Man. What a PR disaster.

Well said. In this instance, the otherwise sharp descendents of Sun Tzu have decided to follow the domesticated feline strategy of closing its eyes when drinking milk.

You can't compare Arundhati Roy and Liu. Liu has spent more than 10 years in Jail without much furor. Remember what Roy did when she had to spend 1 day in Jail ?

India is a democracy. Dissent is an essential check, intellgent argument (debate) the process to identify the path ahead.

These concepts maybe bewlidering to peoples who have always had their decisions made by others, whether party or religious bosses. However to a free people, they are just an ordinary part of life.

I personally find Arundhati Roy's arguments & posturing both hypocritical & disgusting. If she has committed sedition, then let her be tried for the same. However, as an Indian, I'm proud our country, my country, allows, encourages & nurtures freedom of speech, including the freedom to criticize & challenge the highest elected representatives of the land.

Personally, I don't think Arundhati Roy will win any Nobel by a long shot. People like Liu Xiaobo & other champions of human rights or freedom or peace globally, including Aung Su Kyii, have a lifetime of struggle against authoritarian regimes in tough conditions behind them.

I personally find Arundhati Roy to be more of a 'Cause' Celebrity, not a serious activist like Medha Patkar or a dedicated care giver like Baba Amte or Mother Teresa. She's essentially a good looking, articulate person, identifying with sensational issues, to keep self in the limelight. If that is the criteria for the Nobel Peace Prize, half of the Miss World / Miss Universe contestants & a million sundry socialites across the globe, most better looking, many better off and some more articulate than Ms. Arundhati Roy are already in queue for the prize.

Why Roy, why not Gilani or someone like Kishanji? There wont be a ruffle from the govt. While Indian establishment is passive, its passivity can easily get interpreted for tolerance.

There may be some fringe elements demonstrating on the streets, but who cares?

India congratulates Chinese
by Nandkumar Kamat on Dec 10, 2010 07:09 PM

For once India did not bend before the authoritarian one party Chinese regime...
Whole of India joins on this day to congratulate Liu Xiobo-whose following speech reminds us of Gandhiji and Gurudev Tagore...
it would not be wrong to call him "Communist China's Gandhi"
Just as the soviet empire did, the Chinese empire would also collpase in this century-The people's army would not be able to stop the peaceful revolution of pro demopcracy Chinese. Before that happens China should fall in line with the world opinion and permit multi party democracy..
let us join the world in demanding unconditional release of the Nobel peace laureate....we can't apply one standard for Nelson Mandela and another for Liu Xiobo
The following words of Liu Xiobo-is a message for the whole mankind.Let us march from bondage to freedom....
"look forward to my country being a land of free expression, where all citizens' speeches are treated the same; where different values, ideas, beliefs, political views ... both compete with each other and coexist peacefully; where, majority and minority opinions will be given equal guarantees, in particular, political views different from those in power will be fully respected and protected;
"where all political views will be spread in the sunlight for the people to choose; where all citizens will be able to express their political views without fear, and will never be politically persecuted for

Arundhati Roy is a self serving phony who does everything to prop herself to make herself better about her own empty life. She is not a decent human being. She is in the same school of thought as Kim Jong IL of north Korea or Ahmednutjob of Iran.

I agree to a great extent on your views about Arundhati Roy, though I don't put her in the same league as Kim or Ahmed.. These are extremely tough & smart cookies, leading relatively small countries & standing upto a superpower. One must give the devil his due.

Who cares? Does anyone even remember the Nobel Peace Prize winner of 2008?

But China appealed to us to NOT attend the program.

Well we had also 'appealed' to China to not behave like brain dead characters & stop issuing stapled visas to Kashmiris.

India did a great job. Cheers MMS.

3rd Chinese to get Nobel
by Loan Shark on Dec 10, 2010 06:53 PM

In 1956 or 57, two Chinese shared a Nobel prize, I think for Physics. So, Liu Xiaobo is the 3rd Chinese, if you do not count Dalai Lama who has also received a Nobel Peace Prize
