'People just don't care about 26/11'
by JGN on Nov 20, 2009 09:42 AM  | Hide replies

It is for the govt to care about 26/11 and ensure that there are no repeats of the same. What can the common citizens do about that even if they care?

You are so much right JGN. I was a bit angry with ratan Tata when he said after 26/11 they will hire this & that for security. He should have said it is the government's responsibility to protect us. He should have blasted the govt., even after so many blasts earlier, 26/11 could happen so easily.

Mr. Verma this is not Ratan Tata Blood to critize government or any political party. He is a business man and he know how to make business. This is not his duty to wake government this is oposition leaders duty to wake up government but in our country no oposition party to hang the bell to government every one including ruling, opposition, are same. some the parties like MNS are egos and no eithis hence we the common people have to suffer such type of situation. See yesterdays matter at Delhi government wake up of opposition about sugar cane price. Mr. Sharad Pawar Agricultural minister has suggested exclusive benefit to western maharashtra and left with out states. This type of opposition should be there then only india can imparove and common man will survive peacefully.

we just got a taste of Punjab, Jammu Kashmir, Assam
by Devdutt Nayak on Nov 20, 2009 12:08 AM  | Hide replies

in Mumbai.

That is all.
All over the country people go on with their lives, without making a fuss.

In Mumbai too, everyone continued.

Must admit, the Govt exercised great restraint under the circumstances. Our two decades of economic hard work would have gone down the drain if we had taken the bait of war.

And the people supported the Govt too.
And gave their verdict too.

Things could have been much much worse.
Preparations for WW3 were going on track with Israel attacking Gaza over one single Gilad Shalit.

And Georgia destroying Ossetia because of Sakaashvili.

Georgians now see the real nature of the operation, without the blur of Russian tanks which made them falsely loyal to Sakaashvili.

Then Obama spoke, rather than bombed.

And the Polish missile defence thing got postponed.

Meanwhile two nuke submarines collided with each other for the thrills of it.

Whatever Dubya may say, a low intensity WW3 was quite near.
Instead Iraq and Afghanistan continue.

But of course, guns must sell !!

Now China has a stockpile of old weaponry that they want to dump on some country and make some quick bucks.

I just hope Russia keeps its sanity.

Last Lok sabha elections and recent state elections have been rigged using EVMs hacked by the manufacturers on orders of the Jholer EC Navin Chawla and his Congress masters.

The EVM software can be easily rigged again in the future and that is the precise reason many Western and South American nations are either reverting back to paper ballot OR having dual system of independently verified EVMs(by all party candidates) and printed Paper ballot for verification.

But who has the guts to go against the mighty and manipulative Congress who is bent upon going back to the 70s style Raj. Some of the major media channels are already bought over by them using money power and rest are ignorant .

It will require some really daring journalism to expose this and to prevent this in the future till then all the best to other non congressi parties in the opposition (since they will never get elected in a signifcant manner)

It is the EC's job to demonstrate that the system is foolproof every step of the way, not the voters' job to prove fraud. There are any number of ways India's EVM system, which are now essentially "black box"es (with proprietary code supposedly known only to ECIL/Hyderabad and BEL/Bangalore), can be subverted.

A simple possibility is this: once the order of the candidates is known, or is pre-engineered somehow, simple code that is programmed to switch votes at a certain periodicity to a candidate at a certain position in the order could be put into the EVMs could be used to tilt the race in that candidate's favor. It only takes few crooks in the right places to rig the EVMs cleverly and do so in manner not to get caught.

The proprietary nature of the system itself raises many questions of legality and constitutionality, and ECIL tries to hide behind the proprietariness, and recently even threatened, preposterously, some EVM-challengers with lawsuits when they wanted to pry open up the EVMs to show how they could be rigged. How can a proof be given without opening the EVMS?? See the sinister game being played?

Pls see the following solid analysis: Can EVMs subvert elections? full post, July 3, 2009, by Rajiv Srinivasan, http://tinyurl.com/evm-analysis

The Indian supreme court should immediately ban the current EVM-based system and bring back paper ballots, until a modern foolproof system can be designed and implemented.

India's economic performance is dropping in many key ways. eg, it's share of world's BPO market has fallen from 80% in 2004 to 40% now. Total trade deficit, outstanding payments due, trade deficit with China have all ballooned. Mining companies are running amok, and India is shipping off minerals to China and other countries, which may come back to haunt India for decades to come.

On the cultural side, predatory missionaries and running rampant, doing fraudulent conversions like drunken sailors, and creating rifts that needn't exist. Jihadi groups seems to be gaining hold. India's weak handling of the Mumbai attack resulted in Saeed roaming free and Kasab demanding Biryani and what not. Not even rogue Kasab takes India seriously, forget about weakling nations like Bangladesh, Pakistan, and much less bullies like China and the OIC.

Pakistan managed to successfully inject Kashmir issue into the debate in the aftermath of the Mumbai 2008 attack, instead of being taken to the butcher block for carrying out the heinous attack. In the year since, India's hand has been badly weakened on the Kashmir issue.

They have failed to come out with a strong and compelling stance on climate change, and failed in the propaganda game, where China succeeded, despite building coal plants by the dozens, and polluting at over 4 times India's per-capita rate of CO2 production, and leading the world in total emissions. India floundered badly.

The INC has been a disaster on many crucial fronts.

it is heart-wrenching to hear the apathy of the officials during time of crisis... mumbai is nothing but a human sweatshop where money is spent only on those who already have it aplenty and the poor are left to languish... sorry mumbai.. you have gone far ahead and i don't think i can (or even want to) stay with you. adios! To the 4 people in the article and thousands of others who are suffering due to it.. my heartfelt sympathy. I hope Kasab and his controllers meet the most horrible death. Once the army takes over, you will have only Musharraf, zia-ul-haq etc. to show as leaders. Dont expect them to return governance to civilain rule of their own accord.

They do not care abt 26/11, thats why these kind of incidents happen repeatedly in India.

in US, even after 8 years after 9/11, everybody takes it very seriously and remembers like it happened just yesterday. Thats why nothing has happened in US since 9/11.

In a country where people are so indifferent and still have faith in failed Govt whom they do not punish, things will never improve.

While I respect your sentiment, but its easy to blame others and say things will never change. What have you done to change things? Are you yourself very compassionate about others? Until someone does not wave wads of $$, I guess you will prefer to be indifferent too. I'm not critisizing you. I am in the same league. We all are. Humans are selfish by nature. Individually they suck. You are comparing two disparate socities US and India. For one, the US has been in existence for over 2 or 3 centuries. We are still very young, and still rocking. There are several issues to be addressed. Democracy is a slow process, but it works !!! We are the living proof.
