Glitter of Nobel Prize
by Govind Lal on Nov 02, 2009 07:25 PM

Thanks Mr.Shenoy for exposing the hidden agenda between lines.
Know the famous teaching- desire motivated action leads to disastrous failures. The story of USSR is the proof. USSR vanished from world map when a leader worked behind the screen for years to 'cannibalize' USSR. He succeeded in his efforts with helps from self interests from out side USSR. Finally he achieved his aim. He could enjoy the Glitter of Nobel Prize. Along with origin of CIS. Then came the fight between states and destruction statues of V.I.Lenin. They buried the rule of proletariat upholding Marxism. The leader for the sake of Nobel prize allowed to get disintegrate the nation he ruled for a decade. USSR was a formidable force at that time. What is the state of affairs now?
Read the speech at the Times Leadership Submit. There is an indication of a passionate desire for the Nobel Prize. Every word and sentence is aimed for the label "'For the peace and brotherhood of mankind'".
Unregulated flow of FDI and MEGA loans will weaken the economy. Internal security problem is threatening the nation. Terrorists operate from unknown corners with assistance from hidden sources. This is a precarious condition which can be manipulated to someone's advantage.

Great article - but what is the action plan
by Anish Tripathi on Nov 02, 2009 12:07 PM  | Hide replies

Dear TVR,

Always enjoy your articles and this one is no exception. Our strategic mistakes from 1947 (actually it goes back almost a thousand years, but lets keep the discussion more focused) are legion. My question now, is what next. I hear a lot of chatter amongst the strategci thinkers in India on what not to do with Pakistan. I dont hear as much about what to do. I agree on the vigit on the border thing, but what else? We are seeing the meltdown of our neighbour, for all that it has done since 1947, and deservedly so. It is a scheduled disaster, waiting to happen. The break-up of a failing state is a given and this one is nuclear-armed (which I am sure that the US will amrch in and take out at the approrpiate time). India will have a catastrophe on our hands in the form of millions of refugees that will make the East Pakistani refugees look like a picnic. If this is something scheduled to happen, what should India do?

Thats what I want to hear.

Anish,
By offerring the Nobel Prize to Gorbachev, the Americans caused the collapse of the erstwhile Soviet Union. So, what is the game now?Come what may, I don't believe that the Pakistani State is about to collapse. The west and the Chinese have great stakes in the continuation of the State of Pakistan!

Hi Raghavan,

Thanks for your measured response. The issue is a bit more complex. Despite the stake that the west and China ostensibly have in pakistan, the question is do the powers that be within Pakistan have a stake in it? Wags have always said that Allah, America and Army ran that country. I cant comment on Allah as it would be blasphemous. America, just look at the body bags coming back and the US is losing its gumption to fight. I see them packing their bags sooner rather than later. The Army, well the lower down cadres are losing the will to fight with the Taliban, either what they see as their "ideological brothers", or just getting demoralized by the impunity with which they have been able to attack the army establishments, inlcuding today's blasts in Pindi. Dont also forget the Pakistani army officials are the biggest businessmen in pakistan. With civit society losing its patience and becoming despondent, I see fissiparous tendencies getting a boost and we will see the meltdown begin. This is not something we can ignore any more, or we ignore at our own peril. My point is that Not that I want this to happen, if it were to happen, as I think it will, what is India's plan? Do we trust this govt to have done some planning for this eventuality? This is not war-mongering or being cassandras, this is as real as it gets.

Imagine what happens if some of these rogue elements, wiht the gleeful support of the ISI, get some fissile material, and explode a dirty bomb!

TVR Shenoy is bang on! We need such journalists rather than people like Barka Roy, Pranoy Roy and Rajdeep sardesai who masquerade as journalists but are actually spokes person of some political parties.
The Indian politicians never go beyond vote bank politics and short sighted utopian ideals

99% of rediff journalists are shame of our nation, more corrupt.

You are a glittering star.

You will not get a prize from any political party but we salute you.

You have got beautiful vision, attacked the attitude not the person or party or people.

May Vishnu bless you.

Mr Walker
Correct article
by Mr Walker on Nov 02, 2009 10:33 AM  | Hide replies

Although Mr. Shenoy's article is correct let us look at it from the viewpoint of our normal political leadership.

In the first place if people of Pakistan migrate in hordes to India they present a huge votebank opportunity something similar to the Bangladeshis immigrants.

Just on the basis of this huge religion directed population in Mumbai people like Abu Aaazmi get voted how else can you expect him to win ??

I think its not the lure of a Nobel peace price its more a lure of a easily manipulated vote bank on basis of religion, this is what is most scary in Mumbai and other metros too.

Frankly it is in our best interest that the common man in Pakistan sees reason and decides to make friendship with the real Bharatwaasis not those under secular garb.

Mr. Shenoy is right but he is expecting something from those people who really have no history in doing the right things and who are more driven by votebanks based on faith.

Well said, absolutely correct. But i would like to include it's not just policticians who will be warming up to those teeming masses,it will be the media, so called intelligentsia, policay makers ,marxist litterateurs, poets & human right activist (again with a left ist bent of mind). These sections will be shouting from the roof tops advocating accomodation, adjustment and shelter for those masses & the stupid people who are called masses are themselves divided on various lines with huge sections supporting the above chatter and others simply not bothering about anything other than their small mean interests. This has been the tragedy of this country and will continue to be so.

Refugee problem
by Sangita Menon on Nov 02, 2009 10:25 AM  | Hide replies

One main reason we don't break up of Land of Pure is the possible refugee problem.

Imagine millions of displaced, brainwashed people coming to our country as a refugee to swell the votebank. This would be a catastrophe.

It is really strange that no one is talking about it. This is a CLEAR AND PRESENT DANGER.

Those who don't learn from history are bound to repeat the same maistakes again and suffer the same consequences.........

History repeats itself and more so in the case of people beloging to one community who have never learnt nor willing to learn and comprised of betrayers & back stabbers and open supporters of self destruction.

The history of hinduism is a history ofbetrayers and cowards.. Late K Vishwanath (editor of sunday I believe & a committed socialist). How true that statement is, it's been 15 yrs since I read that but haven't forgotten it as it keeps coming back when I see ou own people indulging in the same thing what our fore fathers did....
