He would have been let off if he did'nt act or behave arrogantly, he did he screamed at the Officials there. If he were to gently tell the Officials of the purpose of his visit to US, there would have been no reason to panic and get the Indian Embassy involoved.
Same fate happened to the Super Hero or so they say Kamalhassan, the South Indian Actor, the Americar Immigration guys shouted out who is this Kamal Hassaan? ok buddy ur coming with me...

No motives should be attributed to immigration at JFK. These guys have successfully STRIP-SEARCHED George Fernandez while he was on an official visit to U.S.A. as Defence Minister of Union Of India. Also our Pranav Mukherjee has met ALMOST similar treatment at Moscow Airport, while on an official visit to Russ Republic.
Mammooty is a star for kerala only and not to USA. In USA it is common that there is a tight security in airports after the twin tower attack. There is nothing to make it as a big issue. Majority of Indians don't know even American actors. Just ignore it. No one is torured or harassed in this incident. Just leave it.
