Very simple. There is lack of commitment by Indians doing research within India.. They are more interested in Politics/pulling others leg/ job placements for relatives and friends and going abroad on sabbatical to make money. How can u expect good research. But there are some who inspite of all the evils are doing good. Kudhos to them. and also Nobel involves a sort of Luck and also the applicability of the findings too. For Eg. Our Great GN Ramachandran should have got Nobel. But he did not. It doesnt make him in any way less famous and renowned....

Due to Politics, corruption in related places I know a scientist whose work has been recognised for awards in other country, fellowship provided by American university, but the same thrown in waste paper basket in our country. Not only A genuine worker suffers in India, but his or her whole family, because they carry, home, disappointments and all other negative energies they accumlate at work place.

Indians are busy in regionalism....tomorrow one will ask why indian why not mumbaikars(Local People).
Yes, we are proud of an Indian origin personality getting the highest award. And as is the case with all knowledgeable people, this man is very humble. And that adds to his stature.

What a great teacher you are! You don't know who discovered the stuff that you teach in class! I am sure atleast one of your students will win a Nobel.
