What Nobel?
by Sunny on Dec 11, 2009 02:53 AM  | Hide replies

Somehow I have lost any respect I had for the Nobel prizes after it was conferred to Obama. What the ...??!!

Nobel prizes are nothing now but false ego pampering and western chauvinism. Even this desi probably got it because he worked in US - if he did the same work in India, I am sure his app might have been tossed out, like Gandhiji's was.

I agree with this. Actually Venky has himself said this. There are many deserving scientists working in India. Ex: People often say CNR Rao should have got.

Gone is the prestige of such intellectual giants like Einstein who got Nobels. Now, in science, any obscure person who toil in molecular biology is sure to get a prize in either Chemistry and Medicine. Venky's stuff on Ribosomes- what good is it?

Discrimination (social and constitutional) on caste, language, region, religion and color is nothing but pure Racism. This mentality is creepy and inimical to us. Did only Kings, Knights, Nobles or Priests make inventions/discoveries in the west? Knowledge came from across the length and breadth of western society. If the west had this sort of racism/reverse racism, which we have in our mindset, they would still be in dark ages. They just kicked it out of their mindset to great extent that’s why Dr. Ramakrishnan was able to work there, because west simply needs the best no matter from where it comes.
Knowledge is power! So the more the number of knowledgeable people the more powerful the nation is. Both Racism and reverse- Racism will eat the very soul of the nation. Let the best be brought to the fore, no matter from where it comes. Unfortunately our society, laws and above all our mentality loves the concept of “I am better than you because of my ancestors/color/language/region etc”. That’s one of our nation’s main danger.

What is with this line of thinking? I do not think any of the above people you listed ever thought of this (that they were Brahmins), but only focused on the work in front of them. The positive results came to them regardless.

While dealing with Indians abroad do the foreigners make distinction between one Indian and another? Not really. They treat all Indians equally shabbily. So please come out of this extremely dangerous caste mind set which has done immense harm to us for thousands of years and continues to do so. Our identity should be- first and last - Indian. Every other identity of ours should necessarily wither away if we are to be taken seriously by anyone and that includes even the failed states like Pakistan.

Dont bring caste into this ... !
The fact remains that the Nobel prize is not the only yardstick that we can use!
The Brahmins are benifitting for the thousands of years when education was solely theirs .
Another yardstick of all the nine avatars of Lord Mahavishnu just one was Brahim .
Of all the winners of Param Vir Chakra ... how many are Brahmins ?

You can also say that only brahmins are preferred by Nobel committee! We should all ask for 22.5% reservation for Scs and STs and 27.5% for BCs! Out of rest 50%, Indians should be considered for 25% of all prizes considering the vast size and population.

Why did they personally come and tell you this? Tamil Brahmins are as much as Tamil as any other Tamil caste or community, only a few Dravidian fanatics believe in this nonsense that they are outsiders most ordinary Tamils are not interested in this bullshit. Any way modern day Tamil sare actually a mixture of Aryan. Dravidian and Australoid. So stop spreading nonsence and try ot create caste rifts amongst Tamils. Go and do that to your own liguistic or ethnic community. Understood.

by Praveen Pandey on Dec 11, 2009 12:50 AM  | Hide replies

Dear Govt. of India(GOI),
I want my town to be state and capital of that state like our capital of India NewDelhi. My town is facing discrimination from my state and people are having acute shortage of resources.More than half of the people are illiterate and doesn't have access to medical facilities.Agriculture has fallen considerably by application of chemical fertilizers, so is per capita income, thanks to no industry in this town for local people.I am not demanding any flyovers or Metro train but a separate state, which will eradicate all the basic problem of my town by telangana standards.

I know this is demand of every indian towns and villages, which are facing acute poverty and lack of opportunities and above all justice in all levels.

Porki .... I think that if there was Nobel Prize for Jokes you would have got it... for claiming that Pakistanis invented anything . Suicide Bombing may have been a Pakistani invention but even that the LTTE invented it before you did.

Last year while I visited NASA some Scientists told me that they worked closely with some Pakistanis and are convinced that they are not fully evolved human beings. They suspect that Pakistanis may be the actual "missing Link" that Darwin suggested exited between man and Ape .... !
