Is it a mere coincidence that wherever Rahul Gandhi has campaigned, the Congress fared miserably. The BJP should recommend him, his sister and his mother for the Bharat Ratna for their contribution. Or Rahul Gandhi should be sent on a BJp funded holiday along with his Columbian girlfriend to the Rio Carnival!!

I do hope the congress withers away and god give sence to the people who actuallly think that the congress has done well in the last 4 years. Internal security has never been weaker and indesisive. Economy is in shambles abd by distributing Rs. 70,000 crore isnt stopping the suciedes. Even after that if some people think that manmohan and his team are doing fine then god save this country.

Congress has outlived its purpose and it is time the party is despatched to history by the people sooner than later what with the rise in terrorist activities, spiralling prices of essential commodities, corruption at all places, etc. all affecting the common man and the poor while the corporate houses record huge profits and amass wealth in leaps and bounds. Then they have their spin doctors to explain all their misdeeds. Either the party should get thoroughly cleansed or swept away, if the present stock continues.

Dynasties and Personality Cults

Sri TVR's points are all relevant. I want to come from another angle. Indians - I would say, Asians - are sensitive to some etiquettes, such as seating, getting scolded, in Public. I agree with the links he has made with the election results.
Foreigners find that Indians are too full of flattery and sycophancy. Example, Arjun Singh and Co., despite their age, years in politics, still opt for undignified flattery of young persons of the dynasty. Actually, when they "lay it on thick", they lose credibility. Sincerety is lost when there is too much sycophancy, "servility" or "modesty". Some foreigners are embarassed to experience this over-flow from Indians.
I say that dynasties, many at state level, have been "formed" by these "time-serving" "slavish" people. Example the "KarunaNidhi" dynasty in TN, Karuna, Stalin (what a revolutionary name for a medieval party). Nidhi in Sanskrit means "accumulation", that is "wealth".

The Royalty of the Congies, I think, is more deserving than the "state level dynasties" in one respect.
We needed the Nehrus to shake the mighty British Empire. My late father used to say: "Son, you do not know how mighty and invincible the British Empire looked in my time. You do not know how cattle-like the Indians were." My father had tears in his eyes when he said, "A poor and humble lawyer, Mohandas Gandhi, and a not-so-humble, wealthy lawyer, Motilal Nehru, joined hands to bring down the mighty British Empire. The Dynasty was useful early on.

Contd: Even as we think the Dynasty is a negative influence today, we must not forget its usefulness to India in the past. Pandit Nehru brought a lot of respectability and stability to an young India. We now find many serious gaps in his thinking, in his policies that damaged India. He got many things wrong. But the love the "aam aadhmi" had for Nehru was very, very REAL. Believe me, INDIA cried real tears when he passed away. He was, for all his anti-Hindu stance (which the average Radhe Shyam in U.P. or M.P. or Krishnan in TNadu did not know) a SON of INDIA. He had suffered much personal discomfort for India. Indira Gandhi too benefitted India in some ways, although her economic policy was still more-of-the-same Nehruvian "socialism" - which was neither "fish nor fowl" - a hopeless system that held every Indian by his/her throat and put "leg-chains" on every Indian, except the "Political caste". To get a phone-connection 4 years, to buy Lambretta scooter, 6 years, to buy Fiat car 8 years. Congress under the first two Nehrus punished India economically. Rajiv changed that. But Rajiv had a temper which was well-hidden by his smooth face and lovely smile. He scolded people in public and in private. May be he was impatient, may be the pressure of Indian politcs got to him. It cannot be easy.
In one video clip, I saw Rajiv angrily attacking a policemen, who was trying to stop people getting too close to him. The small-statured policemen was surprised when Rajiv lunged at him.

Dynasties will be our downfall.
In Nehru's days life was not only simpler but there was all out respect for Congress that stemmed from recent gain of Independence. Your father being of that age felt the force of the British yoke, but to tell the truth they ran away because they had plundered all they could and it was more expensive to keep India rather than leave. They left with dignity when they should have been booted out and made to return the wealth they stole. Instead Nehru behaved as a buffer between Indian “nobility” and the ex-rulers, working FOR them not the nation, because he never was part of the masses. He led them. That's the difference. His politics was most detrimental to India and the insane “Indian raj” set up to replace the “British raj” has kept us servile, bound & paralysed all these years. Now leadership in politics is assured by corruption and dynasties of fathers and grandfathers and godfathers in power.
Is there place for honest men in Indian politics? NO. Not unless the Fulbright scholars, the educated men and women demand and displace these rogues sitting in the front rows. Unless the people unite to throw them out, there is no hope. Unless discrimination in caste, class and religion is abolished in India and made punishable by law and respect and dignity in the treatment of the common man made obligatory through education, there is little chance that current state of affairs will change.

We should give credit to Manmohan and company for managing the economy very well despite high oil prices. Sonia, too, helped Manmohan by giving him a free hand to run the economy by not letting other congressies to interfere in the day to day affair of the nation. So if the congress wins in the General Election, I hope to see the same team once again running the show.

Sushma Swaraj learnt Kannada as she has plenty of spare time. As head of the UPA, Mdm Sonia Gandhi is a very busy person. She is the tallest of leaders and you cannot compare Sushma Swaraj with her.

Prem Mohan,
Your point is somewhat limited. Sonia Gandhi is busy now, but was she always, during her stay in India? On the other hand, is it true that Sushma Swaraj "had plenty of spare time". Just because a party is NOT ruling in the centre, but only in five or six states of India, as a senior BJP leader, she has nothing to do?
Moreover, isn't the point: "She showed initiative out of respect for Kannadigas?" Sri TVR Shenoy's major point is: Take the people seriously, do not give them only posturing, election gimmicks, reservations, free TVs and plenty of lectures on secularism? He cited the example of Sushma learning Kannada because she stood for elections in a Kannada state. She takes her job more seriously than some of the Congies. That is what TVR is saying.

Correction- Mr Shenoy and we are talking about year 2004. Sushma Swaraj's BJP was in power and she was already a Union Minister. Sonia Gandhi was Congress President and out of power. It is then when Sushma Swaraj learnt Kannada, not after UPA was formed or when it came to power. Most importantly, as already desribed in the article and replied by other post, its about respecting the voters, their sentiments. Sonia Gandhi had all means to learn Kannada but she did not opt for it -Dynastic arrogance, what else?

We have to give credit for Italian madam Sonia for learning Hindi after she plunged into Indian politics. Did'nt she show some respect to her adopted country (I wonder if its money in Indian politics which attracted her) by doing that after 16 some years of her stay. Such a hypocrite family dynasty!

I congratulate Mr. TVR Shenoy for this article. Finally, there is someone who has opened the Pandora's Box on the arrogance and the authoritarian attitude of the Nehru - Gandhi dynasty.

This is one family who if not ousted from the political spectrum, will take the country down the drain. While it is not good to talk about people who are no longer with us, can anyone tell me what were Rajiv Gandhi's credentials, or as a matter of fact, what are Sonia Gandhi's qualifications to be at the center stage of Indian politics?

Sir, you have written about Mr. SM Krishna, a Rhodes Scholar being relegated to sit in the second row. The question you need to put forth is. Why do such educated and enlightened individuals toe the Nehru- Gandhi line?

There is a certain sycophancy amongst our politician to treat this family as Demi Gods, and unless these educated politicians see the light of day, this family will continue to take our country for a ride.

One can understand an ignorant and imbecile politician like Arjun Singh singing songs about the Gandhi's, because he knows that his bread has been buttered for all these years due to the mercy that the Gandhi’s has shown him. It pains one to see people like Mani Shankar Iyer, a brilliant politician bowing down to people like Sonia and Rahul Gandhi.

Lastly, we have another monster in the making; people should realize that if Rahul Gandhi is not stopped, we will face the same problem when we had his late father at the helm

You are right, Arjun Singh tried it & was denied any further licking of Sonias feet. Now he is sleepless & has joined Manmohan for spending sleepless nights.
A day after HRD Minister Arjun Singh criticised the decision making process in the Congress, party president Sonia Gandhi on Saturday praised PM Manmohan Singh but ignored Arjun Singh at a public function here.
At the eighth convocation ceremony of Jamia Hamdard University, Gandhi made her displeasure over Arjun Singhs remarks very evident when she sat a chair away from him without exchanging a word with him.
The prime minister has put his personal imprint on secondary education said Gandhi without acknowledging any contribution by Arjun Singh, who heads the education department as the HRD minister.
Arjun Singh, at a book release Friday, said Today the evaluation of loyalty is done in a very narrow sense. The Nehru-Gandhi family knows who are the real loyalists and those who are pretending to be so.
Manmohan Singh distanced himself from Arjun Singh at the Friday function as did President Pratibha Patil, who was presented the first copy of the book.
Reacting to the HRD minister's remarks, Digvijay Singh said It is unfair to say no consultations take place in the Congress. At least he should not say that. He is member of the core group, the Central Election Commission and the Cabinet.
No more free pass to lickers club.

People like S M Krishna are with Congress despite humiliations because of TINA factor (There Is No Alternative). BJP is an ideological party and doesn't let people to come in easily at different levels in the party because of presence of strong long time (anti-Congress) veterans within.

So sycophants like S M Krishna, Mani Shankar Iyer and Arjun Singh are forced to take turns to come to the front row and lick the chappels of Gandhi family until the family member is tired of monotonous licking, then they are sent to the back rows for thinking time to be more creative in chappel licking.

By declaring a SECULAR country Nepal is digging their own grave just like India. Nepal should remain the only Hindu country in the world. Otherwise the Jihadists & missionaries will decimate the.
Nepal on Wednesday scripted a new chapter in its turbulent history as the new Constituent Assembly abolished the 240-year-old monarchy
and declared the country a secular, federal democratic republic.
The 601-member assembly met at the Birendra International Convention Centre on Wednesday evening where a motion was passed to declare the
country the world's newest republic.
After a series of meetings, the Seven Party Alliance agreed to table the motion of republic in the first meeting of the Constituent
Assembly, dominated by Maoists.
Out of 601 members of the Constituent Assembly, 572 were present during Wednesday's meeting.
The motion to declare the country a republic was moved by Home Minister Krishna Prasad Sitola on behalf of Prime Minister Girija
Prasad Koirala.
The motion was passed by 560 votes in favour while four members opposed it.The motion said that Nepal will be a secular, federal, democratic republic nation and the king, Gyanendra will be reduced to a common
citizen. The king will lose all the cultural, administrative and political
powers. The king and the royal family members will enjoy the rights that are meant for any common man, the motion said.

What about the insult to PV Narasimha Rao?
by west on May 31, 2008 12:24 AM  | Hide replies

PVN sacrificed himself to the party and he was also snubbed many times by this sonia who came to India from nowhere. Apparently, he was a hard nut to crack and so the arrogant sonia hated him and PVN - the great scholar is meted out with utmost insult after he died. Everyone knows sonia is a dumb - the thing that concerns me is the state of congress party and the country who didn't protest this insult to a magnificient leader of his times.

Also, I wonder what's up with madam sonia and mister karunanidhi from TN? Any hints? More often the news comes that they both are very affectionate, friendly, close towards each other now a days. Anti-Hindu feeling can bring closer even the opposite poles, I guess.
