''Obama'' an Inspiration to many
by Sharma on Jan 05, 2008 04:44 AM  | Hide replies

This is his story....

Father from Kenya and mother from Kansas.
Grew up with his mother and step father in Indonesia.

Moved to maternal grand parents in Hawaii. Went through the rough times dealing with his multiracial and multi-religious background.

Finished his bachelors from Columbia University in NY.

Lost his mother to Cancer.

Worked with low income residents for community%u2019s projects in Chicago.

Then moved to Harvard law school to study Law.

He became the first Black president of Harvard law review in the school%u2019s 104 year history.

Worked as an associate attorney in Chicago to represent discrimination cases and voting rights cases.

Then he taught constitutional law in University of chicago Law school from 1993 to 2004. Then he became a senator.

This could only happen in USA....

there is nothing new with the usa elections. in the final rally it is to be seen as how Bush had won? Democracy has its own way of doing things. Regarding India's future, it is not at all necessary to connect it with the usa elections, as we are and have to be independent--both politically and economically--irrespectie of who becomes the President of USA.

Indians Dont be so naive
by Milind on Jan 05, 2008 12:13 AM

I see many postings suggesting Obama or Clinton is good for India. The fact is no-one is good for India. Why should they be ? (I guess someone will now joke saying our PM is good for USA or the Commies are good for China!). Even if they are good for USA, that will be good enough.

USA and India are democracies. We will come together because of common interests such as economy, democracy, terrorism etc. A president who understands this will allign his policies which might make him appear he is India centric. He/she is only being US centric and the alignment with India is only a consequence.

We Indians have to be strong: Economically, Politically, Militarily and in Science. We are not Israel or Saudi Arabia or Pakistan whose future depends upon who becomes US president. Let us focus on electing good Indian leaders instead of unncessarily speculating about US presidential elections.

Jain Hind.

how new leaders rise in usa - a must watch
by Pradip Parekh on Jan 04, 2008 11:53 PM

i hope the people are paying close attention to the election processs in usa. you will note that unknown candidates have the same access and opportunity as the powerful entrenched candidates. there is no dynasty-stuff playing role in usa. of course, the clinton and bush families have a name recognition - and hence easier availiability of campaign money - but money is not buying them votes. try to follow the reasons behind how and why the unknown candidates like obama and huckabee can outdo the well oiled campaign machinery of clinton, guiliani and romney. the dubious idea of a "faceless, distant, behind-the-scene, unaccountable central high commmand" stuff does not exist in usa that could control the destiny of 300 million people of a nation as to who gets tickets to fight elections in usa. the real democracy is seen in action in these primary elections. so, indian people should take a very deep interest in these primaries as they happen right in front of their eyes starting next tuesday in new hampshire where the candidates contests to win "delegates". a candidate with the greatest delegate-total from all states becomes the nominee of his/her party. the successful nominee thus is the real choice of hte real majority of the people.

Average American hates Hillary Clinton

Average American hates Hillary even if he is a democrat. Americans do not like women who come across as strong. In her case she is condidered a super liberal. She will never win. Obama seems to say the right things but I dont know how he will be as a President.

His name is Barrack Hussein Obama. His real father was a Muslim and he himself has been brought up in Muslim schools in during his time in Indonesia. He is a Christian but probably is sympathetic to Islam.

But he wont be the president as he is black.

The only friends of India in the US are the Clintons. They also dont lean towards Pakis/Saudis as the current administration.

Huckabee probably doesnt even know where India is.
