I am sorry to say that Mr.Sreenivasan is not closely following the politics here or he has inborn racial prejudice.

Nice analysis

Last night I watched the debate between Obama and Clinton. Obama's talk is very attractive. The fact is Clinton is more pragmatic. Talking nice is one thing. The next president is going to inherit a mess that no president in American history did. The depression is nothing compared to the problems created by Bush administration. We want to hear good things, not reality.
American want to lie their way to victory as they lied their way into war. Not that Obama wants to mislead, but has the ability to tell what we want to hear. Clinto makes the error of telling what you do not want to hear. I will vote Obama, not because he can achieve even a fraction of what he promises, but because no one can do worse than what is now. Srinivasan's article is balanced and real as usual. Unlike in India which essentially runs the elections on caste basis, race rhetoric is limited here. In India caste and caste alone makes or breaks, in America which is changing fast, they do not want race to play any role.

Camelot or bust

Mr. Srinivasan, Your statements are at times completely erronous and gently coated with prejudice all over...Cast system mentality perhaps. ..."unusually articulated black man"? You really don't know too many black folks, do you? Having said that, Mr. Obama is an exceptional human being, he is what our country needs right now. He is energetic, organized, calm cool and collected. He is knowledgeable, smart and competent. He represents all types of Americans. Immigrants, blacks, whites, young, poor. His lifestory is a testament to why he will do a fine job in the White House. America is the best country of the world, we just need to remind the world why.

On,
He is I think Highly Knowledgable when he said he would go after Al Kaieda in Waziristan area. First he should understand how bad is the situation there, then think about strikes. And he should know as long as Mush is running Pak there is absolutely no solution to any problems. He has very little understanding of the Politics in that area, and it is a great concern for all in US to think about that, along with his wife who doesn't know how to talk to the Press. I hope Americans become more realistic to understand who is lying to fool the Masses.

Camelot or bust,
interesting title. One way to cover one's prejudice is to blame some one of it.

I am a Republican well into my fifties and I am voting for Obama in November. Simply stated,I find him to be the more prepared candidate to lead the nation in the coming years. people want change and just the fact that he can be elected is a change.

I believe Mr Srinivasan seriously underestimates the intelligence of the American people. Most Americans want to leave racism n the past, not carry it with them forever. The time to elect a black person or a woman is long overdue and most of us know this. So the question boils down to this: which individual can inspire us to set aside our cynicism and our disappointment? Which candidate can help us unite for our common good, and begin the difficult task of rebuilding our sense of empowerment as a government of, for anf by the people? To many of us there is only one. Barrack Obama in 2008.

Did you really just suggest that "The time to elect a black person or a woman.." great, we need to elect people just because it hasn't been done?

Talk about thier individual merit, not thier race or gender.

Sadly the reality is not what is said by the above submitter. Mot Romney's religion went strongly against him. Obama has two things going against him, and Hillary is woman (many American's say they would rather vote for a African American man rather than a woman).
Of course bloggers and people in blue state think differently, but this is a general election and only McCain fits the traditional presidents image.
