An open letter to Shobhaa
by OceanBlue on Jun 02, 2008 12:44 PM

Dear Shobhaa, you really are full of yourself! What I find very strange about your writings and your responses on TV shows is that you talk as if all Indian kids are suddenly dripping diamonds all over the place! The fact that you pamper your children, and lament about how pampered they are, doesnt reflect on the entire new generation of kids in this country; instead - it reflects on your extravagant parenting style. There are scores of children in India, for whom little things still mean a lot. Not everyone has access to priveleges that your children have access to. I wish you would stop generalizing and clubbing the entire young population of India into one basket!!! I am a part of this generation, but I value every little possession that I am able to purchase with my own hard earned money. Open your eyes Shobhaa, India is not all glint and diamonds. I know you like romanticising the spirit of India. And that's fine. But when you cross limits and start making false claims - it gets very annoying for youngsters like me.

Muslims & christians are terrorists
by Quani Randani on May 03, 2008 03:18 AM  | Hide replies

Muslims and christians are terrorists because
they believe in killing humans as sacrifices,
and robbing and taking over their victim's
property as reward for doing the sacrificing.

Now a days sonia gandhi is urging christians
with hindu names to rob and kill other hindus,
and promising them forgiveness if any gets
caught.

Some terrorist organizations, like maoists,
naxlas, pol pot (they killed 2 million
cambodians in 1976) and tamil tigers are
supported by christian missionaries, who are
agents of western-white-chrsitians, whose aim
is to kill every body except western-white-
christians, and take over the whole earth.

For proof go to myspace.com/vidhu2
and/or myspace.com/rakesh22.

Oh, so some random idiot's blog on myspace is 'proof' ?
Whenever I feel any sort of liking for humanity-I come to rediff's message boards to see wonderful people like yourself. It just reaffirms my total contempt for people.

this is very beautiful and it touches u.
Adjust is not at all a bad word and u know what
u can change every thing but the truth cannot be changed.habitats can be changed but habits cannot change. In the country where u can find a god at every foot step which has a place in its heart for every religon and prctically everybody.
Complaints is also a very word when we were under british rule we had complaints after that we still had complaints and till today we have complints,Not much have changed but just our complaints. And the funny thing is will are not ready to participate and change anything.
really not much have changed today like back then we have hope and blessings of our elders.
the key is that fear of change is grater then change itself.
now we have digital divide ,capital divide and we are devided in every possible way.We are unsattisfied corrupt ..........and it goes on.
But this is nothing that was not before.
And its not going to stop india ,i believe in india that the circle will be completed and people will find a united india (with all its problems) and will shine like hundered sun in the sky

Count the blessings!
by shiva on Apr 30, 2008 12:34 PM  | Hide replies

Our freedom is just a blip in our history & many take it for granted. They hardly are aware of the great sacrifices put in by our great leaders and aam aadmi.

We should always reflect on the blessings rather than what many do to get angst out of their system, abuse others mostly for their success. We are indeed a miracle. Despite the differences, we cannot shed the Indiannesss from our skin & thoughts. We are complaining types but most also understand that India reflects our crazy democracy. China is top down, but we are making abusing the top into an art. Our leaders are older than most grandparents, but other than griping, most do not even bother to vote. We look at the differences and call others names, so any intelligent discussions are no go! The pet peeves of religion, caste, and every divide is pouring from our pores!

We are indeed lucky & hope it holds. Pakistan is one religion, cannot hold-up. Myanmar is divided by clans and again only military can hold them up. Sri Lanka has messed up despite the bountious nature.

The British gave us their language, so we can work everywhere. They gave us law & order, but we mess it up. Many others would have gone down with all these birth defects, but we seem to thrive. Many gripe desperately blaming others for their mis-fortune. One hard look at the mirror will bring out the source of misery.

It is upto us. Hope whatever binds us holds despte the storm clouds. We stop at the brink so far! Indeed a miracle!

I am very impressed by your comment.
It is nontheless a miracle to see India holding together and a great surprise ! to many thinkers all over the world.
Nearly 2000 casts ! 16 recognised languages and around 2000 spoken dialects and all the religions in the world. And still in India there is no racisim based on the colour of the skin.
I persinally feel that the credit goes to the Hindu religion. I recently visited Vaishnodevi yatra and felt an unbelievable diversity called India and yet I felt I have something very common called Indian mind, and my gods and the goddesses.
World can not any more underestimate this Hindu mind. Do not underestimate Hindus, that is the message you are giving to the world.
Remember pak was a part of India just 60 years ago.
It could not hold together and unable to hold itself even now.
With one relgion ,in less than the area of Andhra you have 7 countries in Middle east.
Indian as one country is almost as much as entire Europe. England and scotland put together is smaller than AP !!
Hindus do fight among themselves but they are all unted through the ages dating back to as old as 6500 years ago Indus valley civilazation (4500BC TO 3500BC)where the architecture of a family home was same as the present day traditional home. The lord shiva and Bull was there as it is today?
What is holding this most ancient country in the world ? even ancient than China.?

Nothing was taken for granted: Good for country.
by viswanatha seshadri on Apr 29, 2008 05:07 PM  | Hide replies

Kids must be made to know that there is no such thing as free lunch. In the USA, even rich parents encourage their kids to do some part-time work to earn and save and finance part of their later education. They take their studies very seriously when they are conscious of the cost involved in paying for it.

WEll said. Here in India education is so subsidized students take it for granted. Spend their time in ragging new students. Burn buses and damage public property if things dont go their way.

India that is and can be
by Manoj Dev on Apr 29, 2008 01:50 PM

The author has touched the right points about the newly prosperous and forward looking middle class. What do we do with the enormous poverty that surrounds us?
the two factors that would always weigh us down are :-
Corruption - a casual attitude towards wrongs
Population - has potential to destroy all the prosperity we are experiencing now
