PM can only promise without action
by pradeep agarwal on Oct 31, 2007 05:02 PM

This is an apt reflection of his personality which is lot of promises but no action. He is heading this commitee that was formed with his own initiative & yet see the disastrous outcome. The answer lies in handing overall our wildlife reserves to BSF or Army who only can match the firepower of poachers with orders to shoot at sight or else we should forget the wildlife.

Simply cos tigers are becoming extinct does not mean Salman did not commit a crime. He hunted an endangered species. Also, his police constable bodyguard who gave a statement that he asked Salman to slow down before he ran over six people has died after disappearing for three years. Newspapers quoted him as being under severe pressure to change his statement. But the media has chosen to remain silent on this. All such cases should be dealt with severly, celebrity or no celebrity. I wonder when Salman and Sunjay Dutt have committed a crime why do people speak out on their behalf? Have they forgotten that crime affects us all? Many cases happen where criminals go scot free. So based on that should we let other criminals also go free?

no more tigers
by proud-to-be-indian on Oct 31, 2007 04:51 PM

soon, there will be no more tigers.
even with the pm's direct intervention, cannot prevent tiger poaching, do you think the forest rangers can be effective ?
the poachers are not scared of the consequences or penalties as they realise there will be none.
i have no pity for salman khan - but all the forest officials can do is make a brouhaha about his misdemeanors, while they are hand in glove with the professional poachers.
the pm will convene a task-force, there will be meetings,...& the next day you will read about more tigers missing/dead.

If tigers become extinct there will be no reason left to goto the safari's to see them. It will affect everyone in a very large way.I think we should all start wearing coats made of chinese ppl's skin then they will know

Tigers in India and elsewhere
by Unni on Oct 31, 2007 04:49 PM

The time is not too far; for the next generation to depend on Discovery Channel's Archieves to see a tiger. Why can't we enroll these poachers by some political parties so that they can continue poaching on opposition MLAs and MPs

Tigers

Well, I was actively participated in project tigers some yrs back. Readers in this forum will be surprised that it is so easy to kill a tiger. When Tigers kill a large prey they do not consume it entirely, it eats how much it wants and then hide it for tom's meal. All u have to do is to locate the caracass which is again very easy with all the monkeys and birds chirping, just put poison inthe caracass u will get the dead tiger. These midlemen's give some money to these tribal and they do the dirty work for them for a pittance. These tribals have these political leaders to protect and hence they do not fear anything. Park rangers still carry either sticks or age old guns which is no match for these poachers.
I only feel in India tigers can survive only if they are given voting rights.

By diclosing such methods, u will enroll more poachers I think. The way more and more criminals are created and new modus operandi adopted by them after seening a movie, is compelling me for such a comment. Please forgive me If I am wrong..
