Elections are near. awards are given to those who can pull caste and religious votes for congress. Teesta Setalvad has helped congress and left to consolidate muslim votes. hinus are idiots so these parties do not consider them as voters. so let them distribute these awards as they are congress sponsership certificates. no tension. do not discuss anything. there is only one remady that is "vote in elections"
All recipients in their respected fields deserved their awards should not be disputed. But there are essential PARTICIPANTS for NATIONAL SECURITY' like Defence, Para Military forces, and 'now much maligned POLICE' (barring selected stupid lot), who have been ignored - for "political reasons" or internationally motivated policies may be a debatable point for times to come. THEY DO HAVE A ROLE IN building strong the nation. Still Best wishes for a happy REPUBLIC DAY OF INDIA 2007 and for the %u2018expected amongst the top 4 most%u2019 industrial and economically strong nations of the world. Tuli Kumar
Why Indra Nooyi ? Is the Govt. advertising for the soft drinks which are poisoning the millions of people's health. OR Pepsi has paid some hefty amount to the people who decide on whom to give these awards. Baba Ramdev is doing a great service to the Indian Nation by making YOGA & AYURVED popular, which is a real way of living.
Few comments here are pinching when you say that the Govt is anti Hindu. Our population roughly consists of BC's - 25%, OBC's - 52%, Muslims - 15%. Others constitute remaining 8%. Now, if one studies the economical, social and educational condition of this majority, it is astonishing to find that the minority 8% are well ahead in all aspects. I do not deny their hard work or their intelligence. But how come we can claim that only 8% are the chosen people by GOD for their intelligence or their hard work. The law of averages do not support the theory. It is clear from our history that the above mentioned sections, who constitute majority, were deprived from education and exposure to many aspects of life which contribute for the growth of a man. If Govt. is trying to uplift this majority (92%), why such a hue & cry. Do you not consider BC's & OBC's as part of Hindus. OR is it only Brahmins that are Hindus?
Surprised to see the national awards for pepsi and Khuswant Singh. There is no mention of the persons like BABA RAMDEV who has given new direction to the Health Concerns not only in India but globally. I wonder if any such influential movement ever took place in the history. Kher government is BETTER JUDGE.
Looking at the list of the awardees, I've a suggestion to make - award " BHARAT RATNA " in the name of all common people of India, who suffered inept, corrupt administration & politicians.
Teesta Setalvad gets an award? I have to laugh real hard now. The GOI sends a loud and clear message - attack hindus and hinduism, and support terrorists, and you can get an award. I'm surprised that they haven't awarded Osama Bin Laden, Saddam Hussein (posthumously), Ottavio Quattrocchi (Sonia's freind, who helped to smuggle her personal wealth out of the country), Head of Pakistan's ISI who regularly engineers terrorist activities in India, etc. They must be all very deeply disappointed. Better luck to them next time.
In a way, I'm glad that India's brilliant scientists, who have done wonders for the country, have not received these awards, because it would be humiliating for them to share the same platform with India's trash like Setalvad and other gasbags.

I fully endorse the views expressed by Vas. To the list recommended by Vas, I would also include the names of Abdul Nassar Maadani,U.R.Anantamurthy,Girish Karnad, Kuldip Nayaretc.
really i feel sory about this govt, look here is the person who has dedicated his life for education at tumkyr in karanataka, all including president and home minister attended many functions there and had seen the work this swamiji is doing, even US govt may give highest award to him but our shameful govt will not give, realy i am very sorry.

James Jammy,
Not all who 'deserve' it have gotten it. You have left out Osama Bin Laden, Saddam Husein (posthumously), Quattrocchi, and other relatives and members of the fan club of Sonia Gandhi. Pity. Better luck to them next time. After all, what is a national award if it is not a recognition to those who lick the boots of the politicians in power.
