New Constituion - sure!!
by som nag on Jan 25, 2007 12:07 PM

I think that we have learnt a lot in the past 60 years. The new Constitution must address a new political class elected through a process that is followed in the US and not UK/ India. The style of governance too must be based on the US module i.e the supremacy must vest with the President. Corruption must be weeded out and vote bank politics of religion, caste, creed, religion must have no place in the new constitution. Law and order must be made central and accountability must be given top priority. Its time Indians are treated as Global Citizens and not as someone's fiefdom.

Judicial delays should be removed
by anand subbaraman on Jan 25, 2007 12:05 PM

Today legal cases take lots of time to solve. It is high time to remove these judicial backlogs. In the new constitution the no. of appeals should be removed. Only one appeal should be allowed. Judiciary should be 2-tier and not the present 3-tier. SC judgement should be final. No presidential review, pardon should be allowed.

RE:Re-write constitution
by hemant jaywant nadkarni on Jan 25, 2007 12:09 PM
not necessary but everyone inclusive ministers, mlas, mps, etc has to follow the rules and regulations of constitution of our country written by Dr.Babasaheb Ambedkar and not present one because presently the constitution is almost amended by our corrupted leaders for their own benefits and accordingly they have made money and became multimillionares, our present leaders as well as all who are working for the government are not honest with nation and they are least worried for nation benefits. if they do so one day is there nearby for us to work under someone else and have to forget second freedom because present leaders are not capable to tackle to other superior countries like America. i think u must have understood what i mean to say. i want to especially specify that " GOVERNMENT & THEIR STAFF OF OUR NATION, ALWAYS IN MOTION ONLY WHEN & WHEREVER THERE IS CORRUPTION ".

Make India One country without States
by anand subbaraman on Jan 25, 2007 11:59 AM

Yes the Constitution should be revised and the Federal structure in constitution should be removed. So we have no states only one country India. This will save the government expenditure.

The administration should be carried out at the district level. We can have a board at each district consisting of elected representatives and eminent people who will carry out administration . Police should be made independent. Judiciary should be given more autonomy. Free education and health facility to all should be implemented. Free housing to all. There should be major land reforms.

The power should be decentralised and given to district level.

by vershal sharma on Jan 25, 2007 11:58 AM

the country and the mind set has changed. We are unable to place one party rule at the centre for the past ten years because the caste and the religion rules our mind.We should have the constitution which should put a bar on castism, religion and area based politics

Change...... for better or worse...?
by Andrews John on Jan 25, 2007 11:51 AM

The Indian constitution does have it's weak points...not to mention hundreds of years of pre and post colonial angst embedded within it. Implementing Uniform civil code, End to reservations, etc.......all sound good but in the hands of today's politicians, it makes you wonder if any change they implement will be for the better or merely a political gimmick without any conviction. More recently even the grand Indian Judicial system also seems to be more focused on human resource management than putting criminals to book by removing witness protection programs. With all the economic prosperity that India is enjoying, it would seem that at some levels we are headed on a downward spiral.

Re-framing the constitution
by ravi vaidya on Jan 25, 2007 11:50 AM

Yes, yes , yes.

The Constitution ought to be adjusted for the dynamic changes that our country has undergone in the last sixty years. Old, archiac provisions should be done away with. The constitution is supreme, and thats the precise reason why it should be changed keeping in mind the overall effect it can have on our nation atlarge.

And perhaps two of the most vital issues that need to be addressed immediately are - the reservation aspects amd Articl 370. Sinister crimes have been committed by our scrupulous leaders by hiding behind these 'CONSTITUTIONAL PRIVISION'. Hats off to Barnala for speaking out loud.
