This is a very well written article. The points that have been made are truely valid and it is so heartening to see the recognization and the acceptance of the people of the muslim community in our overall national integration and development.
Kudos to the author of the article

Importance of Sania Mirza
by Balajee Kannan on Feb 15, 2005 10:10 PM

Hi,
I read your article on importance of Sania Mirza. I think you missed the entire point.Ours is a country bereft of outstanding individuals in the arena of global sports, apart from cricket of course. We, as a nation, are not respected in the feild of sports. In such a scenario, someone like a Sania Mirza or a Leander Paes or a Narain Karthikeyan, makes us believe that for once we belong with the elites. Religion is a moot point in such cases. It is the common bind of Indians competing at the highest echelons of their proffessions that makes us scream our heads of in support and pride. That is why we place so much adulation on these individuals. I sincerely believe we undermine the importance of their achievements by the mere mention of their religions. Let us simple admire the achievements the only way we should, as proud Indians.

Charles Makin
Confused author
by Charles Makin on Feb 15, 2005 09:53 PM

The author and indeed the article are apparently confused. What commences as a glimpse into the Sania Mirza phenomenon transcends into what Muslims have achieved and what they need to. Seems the author possesses admirable intent, but poor execution. In the end the girl is questioned is not even mentioned in passing, not even as a wrap up...abrupt, very abrupt.

Let her be what she is.. Pls
by Dipak J Nair on Feb 15, 2005 08:27 PM

I Started reading this message because Sania sure deserves the time that I am spending reading this article on her. But I never expected it to turn out to be this Hindu-Muslim duscussion.

Why are you talking of Hindu-Muslim in whatever context here? If you want people to forget that a difference exist then let things be when things are good. Subconciously it will settle down in peoples mind, and things will be seen as normal.

Sania is a sportswoman and let her be that. She has a lot to achieve, and wish her good luck for that, dont load her with any other thoughts or analyze more than what is called for. She is an Indian who is on her path to achieve what will be good for Indian sports in time to come.

Would you have written this kind of article if Sania was a Hindu? If not the my brother clear yourself of the discrimination first.

She is an Indian Girl, a sports person, a good athelete, a great potential and we all shall be proud of her. Let it be that ways.

Thanks & Regards
Dipak
