Commendable efforts by Hindu groups
by Venkatesh on Dec 30, 2005 09:17 AM  | Hide replies

The efforts of Hindu Education Foundation and Vedic Foundation are truly commendable. I sincerely thank all the volunteers for their efforts so that our children can study with confidence about their religion in class rooms.

Kudos to lawyer Shukla, the HAF, the VF, and HEF
by Raghu on Dec 30, 2005 12:57 AM

Kudos to counsel Suhag Shukla, the Hindu America Foundation, the Vedic Foundation, and the Hindu Education Foundation for their efforts in correcting the biased and derogatory references to Hinduism in the CA textbooks.

I am no Hindu fundamentalist NOR am I a psuedo-secularist, but the references that the lawyer pointed out deeply offend my religious sentiments.

The rediff interviewer, its senior editor, clearly showed a bias against hinduism. The interviewer apparently would like to go with the views of someone who calls Hindus as Hinas and NRIs as non-returning indians and confused. SHAME on the interviewer/senior editor for carrying such a bias.

Very good job. The Hindu community in the U.S. now has a strong voice. We seek the rightful place for Hinduism in the world. All religions are equal, they are all ways of reaching the divine. Hinduism, like Christianity and Judaism, should be respected in school textbooks and described at the same level as any other religion of the world.

Hinduism

I read with interest the interview with Ms.Suhag A. Shukla. If you are a partial observer on the various interpretations and views of the world on Hinduism, you will be able to find that most of the negative statements on the culture stems out of a highly mistaken western concept. this is also true for many of the opinions that even some Hindus maintain themselves which can again be attributed to the kind of western education they received and the general unawareness on the original spiritual and philosophical concepts that form the basis of Hinduism. It is also a very sad fact that people find it difficult to grasp the very beautiful yet simple concept and freedom of faith that it provides not to talk about its unique universal view of god.
I fully agree with her regarding the Aryan theory, status of women and the caste system.
Hope people like her who have a broader concept of the religion try their best to atleast prevent the spread of its denigration.
Thank you.

Will She be able to cchange Hinduism's image among Hindus?
by Raj on Dec 29, 2005 11:44 PM  | Hide replies

After all most of them believe in present day caste, when Valsyayana and Valmiki were from FISHERMAN'S Caste! Still the so called Upper Caste study Bhagavatgita, the art of Man Making, every day to quite their mind and act like true Brahmins(according to lord, a low caste Yadava)Brahmin is the one who control his desire and mind and work on his intellect. ie why Lord himself was the ultimate guru. So my question again is will these people be able to change the idiotic interpretation of present day caste System?

I'll take Lord's words in Bhagavatgita any day over a lunatic manusmrithi!

No offence but your response has nothing to do with this interview. You seem to be writing out of your pre-conceived notions and it has no relavance to the article. Please restrict comments to the article only.

This is really a matter of grave concern for Hindus. First of all, the people who have killed millions of innocent natives worldwide, are preaching about evils of Hinduism.

This is their mindset: "I earn $2000, I will tell my mother to go and live with her boyfriend and father to live with his girlfriend. I will call in my boyfriend to live with me and divorce my husband. $2000 is enough for me and my boyfriend whose baby I am carrying."

This is the mindset of the people who are writing rubbish about Hinduism. But Hindus themselves are to be blamed for these ills. First of all, they have themselves neglected their religion & scriptures. They try to imitate their western masters in praising Jesus and Aryan Invasion Theory and Indian "Mythology" and Christian History.

India (read Hindus) is the only country which was really developed spiritually, philosophically, socially, culturally, militarily and Economically much before the European barbarians started to wea their first "CLOTHES". And those same Barbarians invaded the East, South, West directions, Killed millions of Native Americans, Africans and HINDUS in India and today are the PREACHERS!!! SHAME ON THEIR RELIGION!!!

manipulated history
by HD on Dec 29, 2005 11:11 PM

One of the biggest mistakes that western historians make while studying india, is that they will compare across time. They will compare what happened in ancient india with what is happening now in the modern western world. That gives them a nice excuse to run down ancient india. They will never compare what happened in ancient India with what happened in ancient europe and the likes. If there was the caste system in India, there was uninhibited slavery everywhere else. These facts are brushed under the carpet and these false comparisons are then picked by evangelists, islamists and marxists who tom-tom it as as "scholarly research" and use it to incite people to achieve increased membership to their exclusive ideologies. People like Witzel and Doniger are as dangerous as Osama to the Indian psyche
