We r not going to bow in front of US
by Mairaj ul Haq on Oct 28, 2004 07:23 PM

First of all, I as an Indian citizen is totally against NPT, CTBT or any other such treaty which is against our National interests. We should not be at receiving end we should put all our diplomatic efforts along with our friend states in UN in protectting our Scientist, our pride as well as our friends' interests. Oh India be Aggressive get UNSC seat without CTBT & NPT. if we r forced 2 sign these then, "Replay Pokhran" they have to accept us as a N-Power. show it to the world, the US double standards as it is targeting us through Pak. If we r not supposed to sell any thing to the enemies of US then US is not supposed to sell any thing to any country as they r enemies to some or the other country.

why dose Americans think in terms of war

we will teach them Peace.

When will the Indian Govt. Wake UP??
by Rajan on Oct 28, 2004 06:07 PM

India is being taken for a ride by US by promising high tech which is dubious and simultaneously delivering weapons systems to Pakistan specifically aimed at hurting India's interests US. In this game Indian GOvt is a willing partner as the head of the Govt. PM of India is/was (Manmohan/Vajpayee) are so docile and unmindful of India's long-term strategic intersts that they are ready to barter it away for dubious short-term imagine advantages! For Instance, Why has the Govt. no expedited the long range ICBM development programme?? Till the day we do not have the means to deploy a nuclear weapon that can reach US cities from India we will be treated to such games by US. NO one will take us seriously if we don't take ourselves seriously first!! Indian Govt. is too busy playing political games at home while its long-term iterests are endangered due to its inaction. THe trouble with the Old political class in India is that they are too much moulded in the pre-partition mentality to really understand the realpolitic situations that demand tough measures in the 21 century. When will India have its true post independent generation at the top??

Critical Issues related to Indo-US cooperation
by Anshup on Oct 28, 2004 03:34 PM

Dear Editor

The article written by you on the implication and issues surrounding the ban on two Indian nuclear scientists is very thought provoking. One more issue of significance here is why US think tank (read US administration) is promoting military exchanges at the highest level. Quite often we read about the visit of US Navy ships accompanied by fighter aircrafts.
This means they have an intention to learn about the strategic working pattern of Indian Defence Forces. A few days back they were even taught by Indian forces, how to operate in mountainous regions and ambush situations. This is definitely helping US Army learn the strength of Indian forces and someday it may prove highly beneficial for them and strongly detrimental to our deterrence. I strongly feel that if such a high level of military cooperation is being encouraged from both the sides, then it should effectively translate into mutual cooperation in other areas as well like economic affairs, international issues etc. Unless this cooperation is mutually beneficial, it may be late very soon after which we will not able to hold all the strings together.

Sincerely
Anshup

Wht stops us???
by R Sriram. Chennai on Oct 28, 2004 12:38 PM

I wonder many times - What stops the external affairs ministry and our media from directing the kind of questions that you ask directly to the White House spokesman and educate the US public and media on the devious plans of the US.

Same old lament
by arul on Oct 28, 2004 11:37 AM

The US is a superpower, and a major reason that it became a superpower is that it is adept in practicing realpolitik. The US likes Pakistan because the General acquiesces to most US demands, and licks their boots. Rajah's love their court sycophants, superpowers love their fawning dictators. Moaning and groaning about these hard facts will do little to solve the problem. The only solution is to follow China and become an economic superpower with an economy so emmeshed with the West that even today it will hurt the US and the West badly if they pushed China too far - given among other things, that China holds more than a hundred billion dollars of US debt. In twenty-five more years it is likely that China would have a bigger economy than the USA, and such clout that they could take over Taiwan, and the US and the West would moan and groan but would be able to do nothing. If India at this stage, does not have economic and military clout in the same class as China, the country would be in mortal danger from China-a more natural enemy of India due to geographical and ideological reasons than the USA, and also a proven practitioner of realpolitik.

by Ram S on Oct 28, 2004 06:48 AM

Last time I read a article in rediff it detailed the options about US planning on occupying NW provinces of Pakistan or invading pakistan and india might help that effort etc... and now i am hearing entirely different one with US and its devious plans, bringing india to its knees!.... In just a week, I saw two conspiracy theory, entirely contradictory and when I was reading that i believed that and when I read this, I am believing this too. But it is a interesting timepass though.
