Agreed

I fully agree with Arvind. It must have been a case of 21 Muslims committing mass suicide by burning themselves (though I do not understand why they undertook such a painful way to die...a dozen sleeping pills would have been much better).

What next Arvind? Are we going to say that all the Muslims who died in the riots fought among themselves and got killed.

Agreed that the Indian judicial system is nothing to be proud about, nor should people who harbour any anti-India sentiments be let scot free, they should be immidiately bought to book.

But in this manner? We are eulogising the barbaric acts committed by a section of people, who went around killing, looting and raping .. these sort of cannibals have no religion, no humanity and no culture, they are just like vultures waiting for an opportunity to pounce on any hapless prey, of any religion.

We, as Hindus, were ashamed by such acts when they were committed. We still continue to be ashamed, whenever an article of this nature is published, that too from a responsible author.

"21 Hindus as not gulity of torching Muslims" I haven't read the verdict but one thing I am sure about that court would have acquitted 21 persons from charges of torching other persons.
Second thing is that you can't say there were no deaths, people were torched & not even a single word of pity for them in your article,& they didn't torched themselves, & still there is no conviction, isn't that enough to put Police & Judicial system to shame, People being torched in broad daylight police can't prevent it then police can't catch the guility Courts can't convict the suspects. And you saing that calling it a miscarriage of justice is wrong. And your only resentment is against a poor 'hostile witness'. Dude ! "Aankhen band kar lene se andhera nahin ho jata" And untill guility is caught & convicted we ,as Indians, can't really hold our heads high & say that we live in a free country where every body is safe & have equal chance.

Mr Arvind Lavakare

You just drop ur share of prestige in my eyes. From bottom of your heart (whatever lefet after writing this column) you know that injustice was done by the mob in best bakery case. Why you want to cover this with the points taken from Law book. Please do not behave like a fundamentalist. Thanks a lot and thank you for not corrupting other reader's mind by writing these kind of cheap columns.

justice above all
by Vijay on Sep 10, 2003 04:41 AM  | Hide replies

Dear Mr. Lavakare, you seem to dwell on minor legalities forgetting the fact that the people behind the Best Bakery slaughter are still roaming freely. Why does it seem so unbelievable to you that the woman was threatened. And pls, mister, dont tell me you've never heard of witnesses being threatened. And your logic of Vadodara and Mumbai being just 6 hours away is real stupid. I call u a stupid man. Why then did the riots not spread from Vadodara to Mumbai. For a matter of fact, why didnt riots spread to Rajasthan or any other neighboring state. Journalism is one thing. You carrying out your own agenda is another. You seem to be on the side of the slaughterers which is inexcusable. It is because of people like you rioters on either side never get punished by law. I have a million more things to say to you but you are, unfortunately, not worth my time. I will never read your articles again.

Are you inhuman or what?
by Ashima on Sep 10, 2003 12:40 AM

Mr Lavakare, all due respect to your opinion, would you be sitting quiet or lying when you knew you would get out and get shot/ harassed/killed if you said the truth? If you expect that to happen, I guess you are asking for too much out of a 19 year old. Truth of the matter is, I live in Gujarat, and I have seen the way poor muslims are harassed and killed for no fault of their own. I say this even when I am not a Muslim. Let me tell you something, under the pressure of harassment, even the most courageous of people will sit back and not fight back. You dun have no Gandhis alive anymore, Mr Lavakare.

ZAHIRA'S REVENGE.
by J.N. Kini on Sep 09, 2003 10:39 PM

Zahira will achieve what some others may not have; get some innocents convicted. The whole matter, thanks to the partisan Press and other media, has become so very one sided, it could be termed a subtle terrorist act. Guilty should be punished but is it physically possible for a person to remember twenty one faces and names during a riot in which ones own were being murdered,?

What do u mean?
by Deepa on Sep 09, 2003 10:14 PM

So what do u mean Mr.Columnist? Nobody is responsible for the killings? Only a fool would think the muslims werent killed by Hindus. The muslim monsters that killed the hindus on the train and the hindu monsters who killed the muslims...all of them should be prosecuted. For God's sake, don't take sides. Both are guilty and both should be unished.

Arvind blindfolded?
by Sameer on Sep 09, 2003 10:11 PM  | Hide replies

Looks like Arvind is blindfolded and can't see the situation under which the witnesses where in. It is a shame that rediff allows hate-mongers like Arvind to spew their venom of hatred. The main point should be that those guilty in the best bakery case should be punished so that such things don't happen again. Instead Arvind wants to let them go scot-free and punish the victims. Arvind, for a moment try taking yourself off of your bigotry and see this whole incident from a humanitarian perspective.
