The Lam that roared
by SURESH on May 27, 2003 10:43 PM

Excellent article.

All indians should learn that national interest is first and everthing next.

"India's beards go to Iraq to act as human shields! Have they ever carried medicines to Jammu & Kashmir...?"
is terrific. These people have to think what they have done for India before shouting slogans...

remember it only takes 1 dawood to make india go 5 years backwards. if u cannot control such people, then it is left to the patriots to do the job. i have seen small muslim kids shout slogans against ind and supporting pak. this doesnt come from birth. should i give the answer?? just bcoz of 1 ripen fruit , all rotten fruits cannot be kept in the basket.

Which patriots are u talking about?? Those who have bouts of patriotism only on the eve of India-Pak match or who have just stepped out of the theatre after watching Border!!! Gimme a break and have a reality chk.I say that the Muslims in India are more patriotic than any coz they have sacrificed their families and loved ones and did not migrate to Pakistan. What would that be for?For the the love of the land or to destroy it? I don't need to answer that, if you are humnan enough u wud realize it!!

Yes Innocent men women and children did die at godhra. And those who did that should be caught and severly punished according to the law of the land.

There seems to be a prevaling attitude that "muslims didnt condemn godhra".
well just cos the press dont say it doesnt mean muslims dont say it. I CATEGORICALLY STATE THAT I CONDEMN GODHRA.
I bet you every single muslim says that, but THAT WAS NO JUSTIFICATION for the riots.

"Proceed in the Name of Allah & for Allah upon the Religion of Allah's Messenger Do not kill the very old or a child or a woman and do not press heavily by exceeding the limits. Collect the booty, reconcile, and do good as Allah loves the good-doers." [Saying of Prophet-Bukhari]

And the above saying pertains to war! not normal civilian life

I am always puzzled by the logic of ALL (hindu, muslim, others) RIOTERS who go around killing others from the opposite community. If a man of community X kills my father (who is of community Y) then SURELY if i was to kill anyone in my "angry natural reaction" then it would be the man of community X. Not any member of community X that i see down my street! the fault is of the original man, not the community

Quran...
by Ram on May 28, 2003 10:26 PM

Quran is a great book and Islam is a beautiful religion. But it'll be good if you spend some time on Hindu texts also to gain an insight into hinduism. Read the Bhagawad Gita if you get time. Islam vehemently opposes all forms as they would limit Allah which is brilliant. Hinduism, on the other hand, elaborates forms and the formless both, but clearly conveys the limiting nature of forms when understanding Bhagwan (Allah). These forms take the shape of idols. For someone misinformed, Hinduism becomes a form (idol) worshipping religion which is actually not true. Because, Hindus are taught of the formless also and to see God who is both form and formless and beyond. Infact, Jesus is another good example of form and Christians can be guilty of idol worship also if they don't see the Holy Father beyond Jesus. And, Hindusim is not a 'polytheistic' religion. Hindus have only one God; Bhagwan or Paramatman or Brahman. All other infinite 'gods' are forms of this all ecompassing God or Bhagwan or Allah.

Extremely Hawkish.. No Objectivity
by Andy on May 27, 2003 09:05 PM

Ms.Varsha-My comments are never published on rediff.I hope you publish this one. I understand the concept of freedom of press, but I also do understand the press has the power to sabotage potentially workable scenarios.I think we have had enough wars, so why not give peace a chance. I like your columns, but with this one it looks like you do not want peace to succeed and would rather be content with war and the fighting that is and has been going on.Anybody who understands economics and I am sure you do,will agree that the whole economics of this fight is not right, why spend so much on defense when you can try to talk yourself into a peaceful situation.Pakistan has not closed the door for negotiations, and we I think we would be foolish to do so.I agree things have not been exactly or close to favorable, but everything changes and so should this.Do your math, think of reduction in defense spending and how that money can be used to better serve India.I think you must not write on this subject anymore,as you have lost objectivity on this topic and that very reason compromises your judgement and brings tension and emotion to situation which already has a lot of both.

Hawkish???
by omkar on May 28, 2003 07:44 PM

Hawkish?? My foot! Andy, what you are saying in summary is to forgive pakistan for all the blood letting it has done in India and give peace a chance. I think you should first practice that at home. Are you ready to forget about what happened in gujrat after the riots? Are the muslim brethern ready to give up their claim to the ayodhya site? No! Right? Because you might think that this is not reasonable. How then do you think pakistan's offer of talks and peace is reasonable? Before we start making compromises with outsiders we should first do it with our own people(citizens).

Maj Nair's words
by proloy on May 28, 2003 05:08 PM

That is the difference between you and me, Mr Nair ! You've grown sick of war by fighting it out everyday. Whereas I still retain my pristine, patriotic vigour and vitriol. Your feet have become weak, trying to dodge mines. Just look at me -- I'm still galloping away, the flag of glorious patriotism flying behind me -- letting the whole world know of my reawakened status. Neither you nor the pseudo-secularists could have ever imagined me to emerge victorious. You just don't know what I'm capable of -- just keep counting after Gujarat, hee hee hee.
You have become fearful of destruction, mutilation and death. Looks like you didn't receive proper training in khaki shorts and don't have a brave enough general to guide you. Just look at me -- I have never been at the battlefield , but that does not make me fear even a nuclear bomb. For my motherland I'm prepared to face a thousand nuclear bombs(as long as I survive all of them). My patriotism won't flinch. Aren't you ashamed of yourself -- just see, have my men ever grown tired of digging pitches even in the face of relentless barrage fired by pseudo-secularist cylinders ?
