One thing that strikes me is your opinion of Ayaz Amir.You read his article of 11th June 1999.How he admires Lashker-e-taiba and harkat-ul-mujahideen and their spirit of jihad during kargill and all other times. On some occasions I have also seen him on NDTV. I dont why RAW allows these people to visit India.They are security risk.
Mr. Raman, thank you much for a very insightful column on the politics in Pakistan, especially the outlook of Mr. Jamali. I would like to believe that the MEAs dossier on Jamali will be updated before the potential Indo-Pak negotiations. It is not certain, as pointed out by Raman, that Jamali would be allowed to conduct the negotiations without any strings being pulled by the General. Yet it is good to understand the mind of the person.
I would like to get Mr. Ramans views about the American influence on the Pakistanis on the likely Indo-Pak negotiations. It is generally believed that America empathizes with the Pakistanis more than with the Indians. Is that really true? What does America gain strategically from such a stance assuming the Taliban/Al Quieda are eliminated from the region? What is holding America back from being truly neutral on this issue?
Congartulations to Mr.Raman for his well researched article. His columms contain a lot of information backed by lot of intelligence. Possibily this is due to the fact that Raman's background is of an intelligence man.
The government must make use of the genius of persons like Raman and use their inputs.With his vast experience he will surely be an asset. Mr.Advani are you reading this????
After reading the disgustingly 'one-dimensional' articles by the likes of Varsha Bhosle, Praful Bidwai, Arvind Lavakare et al, going through this wonderfully well researched article was a welcome change.
Rediff desperately needs to publish more 'mature and truthful' articles of this kind which do not unnecessarily point fingers at any section of the society.
Unfortunately, most of the regular rediff readers seem to have been swayed by the sensationalist nature of articles by the other columnists. How else can one explain the appallingly less number of postings on this particular message board ?(There were only 7 when I last saw the number of messages)
Come on everyone !!! If there is someone who needs a raise, it is Mr. Raman !!!
This is indeed a well worked out article.Mr.Raman has laboured a lot to give us the inside story of many of the things involved in the Indo-Pak relations.Especiallu he has unskinned the real colour of Jamali.Wonderful and Thank You Raman and Rediff!!.
Note the US angle to this situation. It is very worrying that the americans are controlling the appointment of a post as high as the Prime Minister of Pakistan. Further note also, that military installations in Pakistan are being controlled by USA. I often wonder, how much love the US really has for the subcontinent especially in light of India's growing stature
