I remember that Sholay and jai Santoshi maa both were relased at the same time and both were mega hit. It was repeated only once with Gadar and Lagaan. Anyways I feel nothing can beat SHOLAY why? 1. All the characters were hit (Gabbar, Surma bhopali, Jailor, etc. even Dhanno) 2. It was not copied any epic, or religion or social stigma 3. Maximum hit dialogue than any other movie. 4. we had its LP played everywhere at that time.

all time top movie sholay there is no another movie is replace 4 that simply bcoz of the production value and charecters performencess boxoffice result no other film r match to this be it awara,devdas,mugal e azam motherindia.theser classical movies but sholay is vvip classic.i wont consider dabbang,ddlj,hahak,3idiots,that mean these r not bad film i mean to say ticket rates r very high when its release.

i think this tops to all films,no body had missed this film in india at that time ,even people had repeatedly seen this film,all indians had seen this film

we dont watch movies of "Goats"... That slot is reserved for Discovery/Animal Planet/National Geography etc.
if running in theatres is criteria, along with sholay, Jai santoshi maa was released which ran for 4 yrs in halls.It was a religious movie with no stars. Remember?
