Welcome Back!

I had lost faith in you somewhat, raja, after your 3idiots(2star) and MNIK (4stars)days. But it seems you've got your mojo back. We drove 3 hours yesterday to see Sridevi again, solely relying on your review. You are absolutely spot on! What a comeback, what a fantastic film...and Sridevi's performance.., WOW!!!

Amir's movies like 3idiots & Taare Zameen...have lots of good moments but are, on the whole, too preachy. The subjects they dealt with could have been handled more subtly than lots of smug dialogues (mostly delivered by Amir himself)

Fine movie with a great performance from Sridevi
by Rajesh Ray on Oct 07, 2012 05:45 PM  | Hide replies

English Vinglish is a fine movie; definitely amongst the best 5 Hindi movies of the year thus..brilliant debut movie by the director, Gauri Shinde. Sridevi is classy in the movie from the beginning till the end...so natural and convincing in the role of the traditional Indian housewife...understated but that is precisely why she appears so convincing in this role tailor-made for her. Frankly, barring Vidya Balan perhaps no other contemporary actress would have been able to perform as well as Sridevi in this role. She has clearly lost none of her remarkable acting abilities over the past 15 years. Strong (yet in a very subtle manner)reminder of what the audiences have missing all these years. Undoubtedly, the comeback of the year (perhaps even of the decade) and a must watch film, worthwhile watching in theatre with the family. Four star rating by Raja Sen in his review is well deserved !

I prefer TABU for this role. She would have been a better choice, keeping the age of kids in mind, they were too young to be Sridevi's kids in the film.

No this is not a remake of my fair lady. This is a combination of Mitr and Mind your language.

Audiences

The problem with audiences is they dont know what they want. When they go and watch movies like Dabangg and Singham, they complain Bollywood is not making clean, good movies. When they watch a movie like this, they complain its boring and not entertaining. Make up your mind as to what you want.

Nice Decent Movie
by Trupti Vaidya on Oct 07, 2012 09:52 AM

It was a nice decent movie but not worth the hype. Inspired from Mind Your Language and Zaban Sambhalke and may be by Namesake.
