I'm not suggesting that Freida has excellent acting skills, but since when do looks equate to good acting? Ash was the most beutiful woman in the workd but can you name one movie where her acting made headlines? As far as 'joke in India', it is quite well established that Indian audiences basically fall for looks, masala movies, item numbers with pelvic thrusts and ultra-wealthy settings - none of which go with good acting. Otherwise Shyam Benegal would have become the Steven Spielberg of India.

Well she has niether the looks or the acting skills. so she is a joke. when i went to see rise of the apes with my buddies, none of them even knew who freida pinto was. they only knew of franco,serkis and the boy who was malfoy in harry potter. even the american audiences do not know oh her.

You have a point. Bit the truth is American audiences don't care for non-white and non-black movie stars. For them, movies need to be a reflection of their society and culture - so they need to relate to the stars. I don't understand why Indian stars always dream of Hollywood. It just won't work. Instead Indian stars should work harder to wow the Indian audiences.

You are right. Look at Kal Penn, wonderful actor and his talent is wasted in those stupid Harold & Kumar movies. Freida Pinto is only getting roles like ethinic girlfreind or poor abused indian maid servant or begger. Thats not something indians should be proud of.Not to mention her acting is awful, so watching her act is like comedey almost.
