He is elegance personified. In some days he cud easily outrun the great Uttam Kumar at specific characters. I cant forget his incredible performance in 'Jhinder Bondi' apart from a plenty of Satyajit Ray movies. A true blue blooded Bengali - congrats to you and may you live long to give us some more incredible moments to cheer for.
Soumitra Chatterjee is an outstanding actor. He worked hard then, he is working hard even now with his great illness. He is in movies. Reading poetry. He is acting in King Lear with houseful audience. Bengalies all over are die-hard fan of him. They gave the "Samman" long time ago. But it's good to get recognition from central govt.

do not pass such comments regarding a person whom you do not know. He is a great actor of Bengali Cinema and has acted in mnay films directed by satyajit ray and mrinal sen.
Soumitra Chaterjee richly deserves the prestigious award - probably slightly belated. In his prime he was a genuine heartthrob & gave a run to the other guru Uttam Kumar. With ageing, Soumitra has given some very memorable performance in a variety of character roles. Even in negative roles he has been able to outshine his co-stars just by the strength of his performance. A great orator whose voice still stands out whenever he decides to recite Tagore's poem. No wonder he was the pet of the one & only Satyajit Ray. CONGRATS for winning this award. Iwish him all the best & a long life.
