yes true. but its also true that he cud not digest the fact that he was suddenly dethroned as superstar by amitabh bachchan. he took support of alcohol and thus began his downfall, never to gain composure again till his very last breath.
I have read this tribute by Amitabh just now and I must tell that it will give you some instant lessons on several things: from personality to writing skills. This write is not a normal one but highly moving. There have been lost of speculaiton by media and others over Amitabh and Rajesh Khanna relationship, the biggest ever two superstars of Indian cinema. We all know it well and success of Amitabh burnt Rajesh Khanna. When Amitabh was young, Khanna give some very unwated comment on him and he kept that ritual intact till long time..at one time he said: Amitabh like people come and go, but none can touch Rajesh Khanna, Whenever Amitabh wld come to meet Jaya on the set of Bawarchi, Khanna would ignore him..so much so that Jaya one day fought with Khanna and told him that u just wait and watch and the same Amitabh will be bigger than you one day. We all know that Khanna hated Amitabh like anything for loosing his all stardom and fans to him. However Amitabh never disrespected any of his senior artists including not onyl Khanna but as small as Aruna Irani.
Despite of this, both of them are titans, the biggest ever of Indian cinema which today's guys can't even imagine in their weirdest of dreams. And thereafter Amitabh going so much emotional and graceful about Khanna, just stamps that it needs to be a man of steel like character to be an Amitabh Bachchan. India will always respect and admire the most these two truly biggest ever superstars of Indian cinema, the real titans.

I dont think I can write like you. You have just expressed feelings of thousands of Amitabh fans like me. Amitabh never insulted or disrespected anybody in his life. Todays Sharukh, Salman have also insulted him and his family. But he has never minced any wrong words to any body. Rajesh Khanna has left us for ever. He was a very good actor. But Amitabh was a versatile actor, a very good poet, speaker par excellence and above all a very fine human being throughout his life.

Though I am not a film craze and foolish fan, I fully endorse your view on AB and Rajesh.
I should add, we should also greatly remember the life brought in by Kishore Da in both their movies to become hit, which, they would never had imagined. These two and Dev Anand, should remember Kishore Da, for ever, for what they are today.

Kishore Da had a special quality of voice impersonation that varied according to the actors on screen. Because of this, it appeared as if actors were singing the song on screen.

Well it was surely evident that rise of AB led to downfall of RK, but I am not sure about the incidents you have written about.
This is the first time I have seen AB write about Mehmood saab the man who introduced him,helped him financially and even allowed him to stay with him.
When mehmood saab made all us laugh but last few years he lived were very painfull...this was the time when only one man use to meet him jhonny lever.
Mehmood saab needed help emotionally and financially....but the so called super star AB was never there.

Amitabh has shown gratitutde about Mahmood several times and several occassions. He has said so and written so several times. He and his Mahmood's younger friend Anwar Ali are still the best friend and Amitabh has inaugurated his book a year back! You me and this entire world wants the stature like Amitabh, but numerous small and sensitive aspects of personality define a titan of titans. I always felt that Khanna saab should not have behaved like this with Amitabh..he must have looked into the fact that it was only Amitabh, the invincible star to tis date, who toppled him...none else. So he lost to the best and Rajesh Khanna will be always known as the first ever man who defined the term superstar. Anyway he has passed now and its really a big loss to world of cinema..the strongest medium which best goes through our emotions. Like AMitabh we all too should be graceful to his demise and not talk about his negative aspects.

When Mahmood saab was dying, Amitabh himself was passing through the worst phase of his life...I think you have completely forgotten ABCL fiasco and his famous bakruptcy where Canara Bank was about to seal his home next day...and by the same evening court declared Amitabh bankrupt, saving him from house sealing. Thereafter Amitabh spared no opporuntiy to earn money to repay loans from lenders, though once declared Bankrupt you don't need to pay back to lender. He got an invitation from a famous organization from Pune to deliver a talk on leadership, for a very small amount ( not even Rs 5 Lakhs!)...and he gave that lecture. He asked for jobs, and all those complaining here that why did he do all TV ads...here is the answer..to repay back the money to those who once had trusted on the name "Amitabh Bachchan". He did not go to any door to beg for money, and none came to his rescure with bags of money...he solved it all himself...and all so called friends had evaporated from the scene...the same can be asked to Mahmood Saheb...but since I know that both had problem at same time, I will not ask that silly question like you. Amitabh fought for years at supreme court to get it declared that he was not involved in Bofors and after 25 years the chief investigator had to tell the world that his name was dragged under political conspiracy. And the same family due to whom he had to suffer so much, has turned the back. And yes, when Hungal needed support, Amitabh helped. Did

Coming back to our point of discussion, I agree he helped AK Hungal and did a miraculous comeback after being bankrupt with sheer hard work.
Let me give a few facts that I know.
1.ABCL started in 1996 filed bankruptcy in 1998 2.By 2002 AB was back on his feet with Kaun Banega C (2001),Mohabattein (2001),KKKG (2001) etc 3.Mehmood saab died in 2004, he was facing problems since 1992.
With this I hope you understand the point that I am trying to put across, honestly I would really love to see interviews/articles of AB taking about Mehmood saab, I am absolutely sure he would have talked about Amar Singh more.

a little hint can be taken from this tribute by Mr.Bachchan. While he was advised by the legendary Mehmood to imagine " R- a- j- e- s- h K- h- a- n- n- a is dead !!"...he mentioned it here to describe the Big Impact of Mr. Khanna. He doesn't go into the details of whether he really took to Mehmood's advice for bringing out the desired expression.

Why this animosity between RK and AB.I would like to put certain facts which may havebeen overlooked. Initially during Anand days RK was nice to him. However when Hrishikesh Mukerjee wanted to make Namak Haraam. He wanted to cast both the actors again. RK was intelligent actor and reader of the character, he wanted the role of Rich Man which Hrishikesh Mukerjee has kept for AB. He masterfully kept the death scene for Amitabh's character. When RK was not ready to do the poor friend's role. He was emotionally blackmailed to give in. To compensate RK, he was offered death scene. Even then he was not agreeing but HKM offered him that he will work with him in one more film. Some how RK in his weak moments agreed to do a poor friend's role.. Rest was history. Perhaps RK could never forget himself for being allowed to be deceived by his frenemies. He gave a decent break to Salim Javed but due to some tiff with them, they went with a vengeance to back AB. They made Gulshan Rai to drop RK from Deewar.It was indeed a series of actions and reaction which resulted into his isolation. When time was good, he could have handled. I will sum up when his time was good, all his rivals and victims had literally ganged up against him just like Indian Crabs. He was classic case of victim of his own success, politics, ruthless competition and failure to read the changing scene and tastes of spectators.
He was the man having romace style of Dev Anand,Shammi Kapoor,Having tragedy image like Dilip Kumar,simple common man like Raj kapoor.He was equally talanted actor like Amitabh,Sanjeev kumar. If he had realised his drawbacks then he would continued more 4/5 years as a superstar.Any way my salute to kakaji
