note the number of times "pathan" creeps into this secular narrative". warm pathan embrace? not paternal, avuncular...what silliness is this?

19 filmfare Best Actor nominations...
8 Best Actor awards
and the kicker is that he could have easily won 5 more...since the awards started in 1954 and he became a superstar in 1947.

When Dilip saab became a start the indian film industry had just found its footings...There was no reference point for Dilip saab...

E.g. he could not imagine how to react as an indian actor to say a mother's death, or confront a villain etc.

He invented Indian acting and created reference points for all future generations till date.

As rightly said by Big B no actor can say that he has not copied Dilip.

There are prejudices against him for narrow reasons...but frankly ppl should look at all his movies from 47 till 2000 to know what a great and varied actor he was...he was never the tragic hero he was made out to be...just watch him in Aan, Naya Daur, Kohinoor and ram aur shyam....amongst many others.

The way you have mentioned is that as if he was the pioneer of acing in Indian cinema. Do you know that Ashok Kumar was already a superstar before Dilip came into cinema? Ashok Kumar was an inspiration for many early actors like Raj Kapoor, Dev Anand and Shammi Kapoor.

Though he was a good actor but not a spontaneous actor like Raj Kapoor. He never used to do long shots. Roles of Rajkumar in Paigam and Sanjeev Kumar in Sangharsh were more appreciated by audience. After Ganga Jamuna he had only one major hit Ram Aur Shyam

Respect ur opinion...but have to say you are ignorant!!!!

Pls do more research on the filmography and hits/flops of actors of his era before commenting!!!

Do you even know why long shots are used in films ???

Raj Kumar was not only more appreciated in Paigam but also in Saudagar. With Sanjeev, not only in Sangharsh but also Vidhaata.

Dilip Kumar is the best actor ever in the commercial house cinema of India. I once watched his movie Naya daur. His performance in that movie was very simple, natural but real class. I will never forget that movie ever. You cant compare SRK or Amir Khan to his talent.
