Does Bhupen Da need Bharat Ratna?
by partha baruah on Nov 10, 2011 12:33 PM  | Hide replies

The demand to confer Bharat Ratna to Bhupen Da is merely an emotional outburst. He is Ratna of highest degree and the people across the globe prove that by unprecedented outpouring to pay their last respect to the legend. The people who decide to whom Bharat Ratna be given have nothing to do other than doing politics. Bhupen Da doesnot need any award from the Political quarter. He resides in our heart and more than mere Bharat Ratna.

Awards should be given and not demanded . No doubt Dr. Hazarika deserves the highest , but certain people of Assam demanding it is extremely embarrasing. If felt so strongly , then an award be instituted by the state.

You will always live among us. I am not an Assamese but that should not stop me from stating that he was one of the greatest singers we heard. The melody, the resonating voice, the sensible lyrics - he created magic with all these. Now when I have hardly any one to seek support from in a foreign land, I draw lot of solace from him. Thanks Dada for such beautiful songs which make me forget my solitude, my sorrow and sense of helplessness. May his soul rest in peace.
